Re: Won't Start....
Well gentlemen, victory.... Man has once again triumphed over machine! The car runs again....
It was a bad coil...... Put in a new coil and it fires on the first turn of the crank. I finally...

Re: Won't Start....
Yes, cleaning contacts a good idea..... I had a 68 Mustang years ago that wouldn't start. Spent countless days working on it, and eventually took it to a shop. One fuse in the ignition system was...

Re: Won't Start....
Yes, the key has been unknowingly left on until the battery is dead, and perhaps this will have burned the coil out? And yes, don't know why a coil would ever be mounted upside down. I'm a poor...

Re: Won't Start....
I cleaned the points with 400 grit, no change.
Spark looks weak. I wonder if coil is bad. The key has been left on before. Don't know if that can kill a coil? Coil wire suspect. I need to pick up...

Re: Won't Start....
Yes, confusing myself.....
Yes 6v at open points
Ammeter jiggling when cranking key on
I cannot get continuity in the coil to dist wire.....
Coil tests at 1.4 ohms. Someone mentioned...

Re: Won't Start....
I do have 6V to the points. I will check points gap.
I also plan to check to see if I have spark from coil to groud with points open.
Sneaking up on the problem!

Re: Won't Start....
Lots of tests to still perform. I need to have a look at the ammeter when cranking too.
I do not think timing could have changed. If the timing was off I'd still have spark. It will be something...

Re: Won't Start....
Yes, sneaking up on it.... It's a simple process of elimination.
I will check continuity of the coil wire and also the coil. I can't imagine that the cap and rotor have gone bad, but worth...

Re: Won't Start....
Well guys.... The battery test full on 100%
I removed the spark plug leads from the posts on the distributor posts and set the plug leads close to all 4 posts on the cap. Key on and cranked.... No...

The needle is brand new viton tipped.
On a previous non start event, plugs looked a little carbon fouled, and I took them out and wire brushed them clean and then it started. Plugs right now have...

Re: Won't Start....
I definitely have fuel to the carb and in the bowl, but when cranking, the plugs are dry, so I think fuel problem,
But, I tried some starter fluid, and nothing, so then I think electrical.
So...

Re: Won't Start....
Points open when checking voltage there.
I tried cranking with spark plug leads off and really didn't see any thick blue spark jump, but I need to try that whole process again.
The car is an...

Re: Won't Start....
Yes, I wondered that about the battery voltage. 1 1/2 year old battery, but 6 V batteries don't last long in my experience. It is fully charged and adequately cranks the engine over, but it would be...

Won't Start.... Frustrating. Was running fine, then one day no luck, not even a cough. Selling late father's last car and have offers, but need to get started.
Electrical checks out. Have voltage...

Re: Dead Horn Troubleshooting....
Thanks to all that replied.....
I backed of the adjuster, cleaned up all the armature surfaces with sandpaper, oiled the shaft and worked it back and forth, and lo and behold the horn motor did...

Re: model a does not start
I recently tried to start a 31 that had sat for years and had similar issue. I had gas to the carb, but it would not start. I took the carburetor apart and cleaned it and found that the main jet was...
