Re: Radial sway

I had a set or rear shackles do exactly that. They even looked the same. Maybe we both had faulty shackles from the same supplier. They certainly made for interesting handling while towing!

Re: Radial sway

Re: 28 7 tooth Steering gear

Tinbasher,
I suspect your problem is not the adjustment of the bearings on the worm. It is more likely to do with the wear in the worm and sector. The sector shaft bearings are also likely in need...

Re: Camshafts

Gary,
I can put you onto a mob here in Melbourne who reground my cam shafts. Their grind goes on a standard camshaft which you would need to supply as a core. They are beyond a B grind for...

Re: Pros and cons of removable Phaeton top?

FWIW. I know this wanders away from the OP's question but.....
Many people who own Phaetons ruin the tops by leaving them folded down or even off the car. The top fabric is stretched pretty tight...

Re: B Distributor Initial Timing

If the head is off like during assembly, I never use the timing pin. It is much easier to use the valves on #4 cylinder to get TDC on #1. Let me explain:
#4 is at TDC after the exhaust stroke at the...

I don't doubt that but scammers have even tried to use this forum in their scam.

Re: Selling model a

I knew I knew the name! He is a bit of a dealer in Model A parts who has a factory/warehouse not far from me. I have even bought the odd item from him at swap meets. Like I said, you hold all the...

Re: Selling model a

What information do you have on him? Which state is he from, for example. I will check around for you though the name sounds familiar - just can't recall where I have heard it.
That said, as I said...

Re: Posting this for a chuckle, unless you're grumpy, in which case you may hate it

$1,999 for 5 wheels! How much without the gold plating?

Re: B Distributor Initial Timing

I would expect that at those speeds without a heavy load like pulling up a steep hill or towing, you would be at maximum advance. (lever all the way down.)

The car does not have AR hubs. The 21" wheels are the later type.

Re: Water pump core differences

The old steel shafts were MUCH harder than the stainless crap we get these days. I understand why the vendors sell the stainless ones - people like the look of a clean shaft and are not concerned...

Re: About oils

El Cheapo 20W50 in my As and change at about 1,000 miles - 3,500 miles if I'm on a long tour where the motor is running warm all day. I run a full flow filter.

Re: Original Owner

One day when I had my A out, someone complimented the car but finished with "but it's all replica, of course". I assured him it wasn't and asked why he thought that. "It couldn't possibly have lasted...

Re: Starter windings . . . a Look-See

I've seen coils in a similar condition. I put it down to the cloth covering having rotted. It was very fragile. I had better on the shelf so I switched them but repair shouldn't be too difficult.

Re: Starter . . . Rebuild or Rebuilt?

The screws holding the field cores in are notoriously difficult to remove and the longer it is since they were last out, the more difficult they are.

When I put 19" wheel on the back of my '28, he hubs push the hub caps off and I can't see what is causing the hub/axle to protrude further than it would on a 30-31
