Re: light rod stuck in shaft

I think the size of the repro rods has been addressed. I just got one from Snyders and measured it against the old original and they were within .001 of each other. Original was .373, new was .374....

Re: Does Optima battery charge different

To my knowledge the Optima charges like any other battery when it's in a car. I know some newer battery chargers do have an AGM mode but I'm also not sure how that's different from normal.

If...

Re: Carb leak

I couldn’t see the picture until now. Maybe it’s an illusion but the fuel level looks too high? What level are you setting it at?

Here you go, follow that and see if you can tighten it up. Same procedure as the bulletins with nice illustrations.

Re: Front Fenders Hit the Shocks?

Pictures would definitely help. You're using the stock Houdaille shocks?

Re: Running engine with no dip stick?

Not a ton but it will. For whatever reason, I once put the dipstick down in the side pan instead of back in its hole and then drove 20 miles. Didn't lose that much oil, not enough to be dangerous at...

Re: Carb leak

I'd add the float valve gaskets to that suspect list, especially if you're using more than one to set the float height.

Re: Original Owner

I remember the first issue of Hemmings classic car featured a story about a 1929 coupe still owned by the original owner and he was in his 90s then. I believe the issue was from 2004 or 2005.

Re: Radius ball cap

My car had the rubber ball style and never gave me any trouble. I decided to put a new rubber on when I pulled the transmission and was surprised to see that the ball measured a perfectly round 1.5"....

Re: how many tie rod turns equates to 1/16 inch toe in change ?

Good point. My gut says you're absolutely right. The easiest way to figure that turn to distance ratio would probably be empirical testing. A rough guess is that whatever distance you change the tie...

Re: how many tie rod turns equates to 1/16 inch toe in change ?

The tie rod threads are 24TPI so that equates to .042" per 1 turn of the screw. You would double that for the tie rod since it has opposite threads on each end so that would be .084" per turn of the...

Re: Engine quit running help

Does the shaft in the distributor turn? Iíve heard of the upper shafts seizing up from lack of oil. Would think youíd hear something beforehand if thatís the case though.

Re: Tire Ooze Cleaner

Have you tried Westleys Bleche-White? That stuff used to take everything off whitewalls, would probably clean off blackwalls just as well.

Re: Engine not starting.

It shouldn't keep the engine from cranking unless it was stuck for long enough to run the battery down a ways. Easiest way to check is measure voltage at both sides of the cutout. Should be ~6V at...

Re: Brake Cross Shaft Diameter

When I changed mine I used the solid brass ones and cut them in half myself with a Dremel cutoff wheel. The gap created helped give the bushing a tight fit and gives a space to stick the needle...

Re: Rebuild generator or move to alternator?

This is the advice I would give as well. Also, if you prefer the generator like you say I think that seals the deal.

I use a generator with Tom's EVR and have driven quite a bit at night with...

Re: Steering arm knuckles

I don't have an actual spec but a good rule of thumb with all new parts (including round balls on the ends of the arms) is to tighten the plugs until they are flush with the opening and then just...

Never messed with the 29-31 1 light version, is it like the twolite and just doesn't use the parking light terminal?

Yep, I grabbed a couple untested original coils for cheap last year and they both work just fine, nice long blue spark. I do carry a spare just in case... it is still a 90 year old part but on the...
