Re: poor idle driving me nuttier

I am just wondering if the “lightened” flywheel may be the culprit? I thought the weight of stock flywheel helped enable the slow idle speed. Just my thought.

Re: Why do you like your car.

I do have to start by saying that I have never been a “Ford guy”. I just don’t care for their styling. I have always preferred Packards, but could never afford one. I do admire well built machines...

Re: Cut Out Issues?

When I got my Model A it came with one of the aftermarket repo cut outs, spot welded shut. It was not the diode type, I am sure. After reading, here, about others that had used the Fun Projects...

Re: Timing wrench

I have used the light bulb method, done it by eye (not very well, though), and the New Rex wrench method. As stated above, for me anyway, is getting the timing pin in the dimple of the timing gear. I...

Re: Carburetor Float valves

When installing any new float needle and seat, (or old, for that matter), I check by installing the float, rolling the carb over so the float is resting on the needle. Hook up a Mity Vac hand pump...

Re: Why do you own a Model A?

I have always been attracted to antique cars. My dad always said that we would buy a Model T "some day". Well that "some day" never came. I have looked at Model T's and Model A's at car shows and...

Re: Garage heat

My garage/shop is a detached 2-car, built in the 1920's. No insulation and very basic. It is used primarily as a wood working shop, but used to keep cars it it too. My heat source is a second hand...

Re: shippers;

Out of ignorance, I used a broker to move mine from Colorado to southern Illinois. As said, I didn't know any better, but did use an online rating AND a checked them out with the BBB. The broker put...

Re: Henry's Bizarro threads!

I grew up in an old time hardware store, and 40 years ago we stocked #12-24 fasteners as a regular item. I don't know when it occurred, but the #12-24 started disappearing from our suppliers. I think...

Re: Carburetor Problem

Robert,

We have the same issue here in the Mid-west; we have to drive a long way to get ethanol free fuel. I have been adding a good slug of Seafoam to my fuel to remove the deposits left behind...

Re: Carburetor Problem

Hi Robert,

It sounds like a fuel tank vent problem, or when refueling, rust and debris in the tank is getting stirred up and clogging the fuel pick up. I would check the fuel cap for proper...

Re: Generator putting out too much power

What are you using to measure your charge current? The dash meter (questionable accuracy) or a known accurate ammeter? I have always used an external ammeter of known accuracy. I have always...

Re: Alemite gun

It sounds like your nozzle might be clogged with hardened grease. See if you can't poke a piece of stiff wire thru the nozzle and tube, after removing the check ball and spring. When reassembling the...

Re: what makes a A'er

First of all, I have always been a sports car guy. I used to have posters and built models of all the neat cars, but could never afford. I always dueled over the Packards, Pierce Arrows, Cords, and...

Re: Shutting my Roadster off.

I have always shut off the fuel supply and allow the engine to die from lack of fuel before I leave the car over night. I do not turn off the key ignition or battery disconnect until after the engine...

Re: leaking gas tank at steering column bracket

How much disassembly of the dash is required to install the support bracket? My tank is not leaking, but I see this as a good preventative measure. Just wondering how much trouble I will be getting...

Shock Link Assemblies

I purchased a full set of Bill Stipe shocks about 2 years ago and have never installed them all. It is about time that I got them installed! My problem has been with the shock link assemblies. I have...

Re: e-brake retracting spring

Out of desperation I fabricated a puller from a coat hanger and a piece of dowel rod acting as a tee handle. Pretty crude, but it worked well. Just enough flexibility, yet stiff enough to do the job....

Re: Gas Shut Off

I just installed the fuel valve kit from Brattons, the one with the ball valve and copper tubing. I only did this as a temporary measure, after loosing a full tank of gas over winter in the storage...

Re: steering wheel removal

I pulled the whole unit from my Tudor and put it in a vise. I bought one of the pullers from Macs, I think. It did not take long before it started to bend. I had to reinforce it by welding angle...

When replacing the float needle and seat in small engines, I always test the needle and seat by connecting my Mityvac hand pump to the fuel inlet. Use the pressure function of the Mityvac. Turn the...

Using an ultrasonic cleaner on a Carburetor?

Has anyone tried using an ultrasonic cleaner to clean up a Zenith carburetor? I have used these cleaners for years in cleaning up antique radio components, and was reading in one of the antique radio...

Re: Carb Question

Over the years I have had problems with the ethanol laced fuel they are requiring us to use in the Midwest, especially with small engine carbs. The passages are so small, they clog easily with the...
