Thanks for the insight, wish I understood these tranny's better.
And yes I would definitely like to have a functional OD.

Well upon further inspection I found the lock lever for the OD on back side of transmission, moved lever forward and drove it. It was in overdrive all the time and now it's disengaged. Don't know if...

It's eaiser to pull the cover, 2 bolts holding on right now, floor is still bare metal. I'm old and have a bad back.

It doesn't seem like it's coming out of gear, because when I apply the gas again it's fine, moves right along.
I going to pull the inspection cover and see if there is a lever still mounted for OD...

It's possible, I pretty much remember seeing some bolt holes where it looks like solenoid would bolt up.

"Ford38v8" yes it does it in 1st gear.

I'm not a transmission expert, so this might be a silly question, could it have had an overdrive and then removed at some time and this could be why it's driving this way?
