Re: Just a simple "thanks"

Like you, I was apprehensive to name names as well as my memory is poopy. I have to concur though... Don and Karl are wonderful.

Just a simple "thanks"

Guys, there are a number of you that are always there to help others and for that I thank you.
I continue to learn new things as a result of your generosity.
Even though I am a "40" guy, there are...

Re: Accepting cash for car sale

That "...contain some through thought.." Hmmm, I wonder if this is meant to say "... contain some thorough thought..."?

As far as some folks not reading your posts... Lord knows I do my best to...

Re: Hood hinges-1940 4 dr deluxe vs standard 4 dr?

There is no difference between the hinges or the supports (Ford V8 / Deluxe models).

Re: Send generator off for a rebuild or just rebrush it myself?

$230? Is that rebuilt, shipping included and the part installed for you? Yikes!

I'm with Jim on this... do it yourself. Unless the armature or the fields are defective, well, there isn't much more...

Re: Lincoln door buttons in a 47 Ford

No, not without a lot of modification.

Door latches (NOS) are fairly common for your car. Unless I'm missing something here, why not locate NOS?

Re: Universal retaining washer

Agreed Dave. I tend to not use old lock washers unless absolutely necessary. As you know, they do lose their "gripping" strength.

Re: Universal retaining washer

I did not realize there was a first generation washer even though I had witnessed both with / without the tab. I continue to learn. Thanks David.

I did know there was a split type lock washer...

Re: 40 ford emergency brake cable removal help

It will :) It's usually easier to remove in the direction of the plate. Some back and forth tugs on the cable helps as well.
You'll get it and then be amazed at how much "junk" was in that tube.

Remove glass with rubber gasket from both sides.

Re: 40 ford emergency brake cable removal help

Chris, My take on this is that the cable is stuck within the tube - nothing to do with the clip that is most likely long gone.

Within that tube (if my hunch is correct) is a collection of debris...

Re: Universal retaining washer

If yours has the tab, then it's correct. However, you installed it backwards. I'd have serious anxiety wondering when it will decide to back out.

Re: Fuel tank dipping & sealing opinions welcome

Just working on it moments ago. I did the acetone thing twice. The second time, it came out nearly as clear as it went in. A good sign methinks.

Dropped a chain in there and tumbled that around...

Re: Universal retaining washer

Pete, Is you look close, the washer has a cone to it. The cone faces away from the engine. In other words, the convex side is nearest the head of the bolt.
The cone is what gives the washer a...

Re: Removing Brake Hose

No pointers really.
Secure the block well with whatever means are necessary. A six point flare wrench is best for the hose. Apply muscle... it'll come loose.

Re: 40 Ford 1/2 ton pick up trans removal.

I prefer to roll the rear chassis back a few inches. Much easier in my opinion.
However, if the flywheel needs to be surfaced, it's easier in the long run, to remove the engine as you must remove...

Re: Unusual 1940 Deluxe grille

McGarrett, These were very cheap after-market pieces widely available in the late 1960's in to the mid 1970's.

Fuel tank dipping & sealing opinions welcome

Guys, just removed the tank from my '31 Buick I'd restored 23 years ago. The car has been in cold storage with fuel in the tank for the past 16 years.
The tank was, during restoration, acid dipped...
