Re: Cheap 21 inch tires

I was going to suggest flying to Vietnam but I think the transportation would eat up any savings.

Re: Preserving cleaned silvered reflectors

The modern aluminum reflectors have a thin coating of aluminum oxide (Al2O3) to protect the aluminum. It is not as reflective as bright silver but will not tarnish.

Re: Starter Stud Wiring Order

I don't think it matters much but I would put the cable from the battery on first, then the cable to the fuse holder, then the washer. I use electrical grease that contains some copper to keep the...

Re: Went from the Club Coach to the Club Briquette

Sorry to hear of the problems with the car and parts and your TIA. As Chuck said, your health is the most important thing. Stress can lead to a stroke so try and reduce the stress and take some...

Re: Water pump and fan

How do you know the shaft is not stainless? Some varieties of stainless alloy are magnetic.

Take the snap ring off and pull the shaft. That will tell you what you have. If leakless type...

Re: 28 wheels

Lots of people run 16 inch rims and put larger tires on the rear and smaller tires on the front. If you do that check the alignment in the front.

Re: Generator Question

I would try a gear puller. If you tap on the end of the shaft use a thick piece of aluminum between the hammer and the shaft.

Re: Seepage at the head

Your car's performance probably has nothing to do with the coolant leakage. If you have the stock head you may want to put on a high compression head and do a tune up.

I would recommend a new...

Re: 1930 Tudor accident

It is clear that the accident caused the wishbone to be shoved back and break the bell housing. I had the idea of a break away link that would shear before the bell housing broke, but on second...

Re: Engine work after 70 years of not running!!

The prudent thing to do is to take the pan off as well as the valve cover and cam gear covers and just check things out. Why was it sitting for so long? Did some one park the car because there was...

Re: 1930 Tudor accident

Regarding salvage title. My wife's Saturn was hit in California and the DMV there wanted us to bring the car in for an inspection before they would issue a registration. We drove it to North...

Re: Modifying oil pump.

Terry's concern about high oil pressure is the stress on the gears driving the oil pump. He has a point. My pump puts out 50 psi for the pressure lubrication on my main bearings. My rods are...

Re: Timing

Not often. It is more important to check the point gap as that will effect the timing and the dwell. Even if you remove the distributor, and do nothing to it, and re install it, you will not have...

Re: Modifying oil pump.

One option is to buy an aftermarket oil pump. Below is a photo of the one on my car. Two little threaded holes have to be added to the block. I turned the photo 180 degrees to make it easier...

Re: Ford to build second engine plant in China

In my opinion,

The air is a lot cleaner in the US and employees are paid a fair wage. The air quality regulations and labor rates are what is sending the jobs overseas. As this happens the ...

Re: Generator polarizing question

Re: Lost bolt

I like the US made modern Bendix drive because there is no bolt to come loose or spring to break. There is a screw to lock the drive on the shaft but it is captured by a spring loaded washer.

Re: Big Valves and porting?

Exhaust scavenging depends more on the exhaust system than the exhaust valve. The exhaust pulse produced when the exhaust valve opens travels down the exhaust pipe at the speed of sound and...

Re: Generator polarizing question

Warning: engineering content. The field poles have a certain amount of residual magnetism. This is enough to start the generating process which then supplies the field winding and produces the...

Re: greasing new springs

The graphite paint works well and will not make a mess. If you use grease, make or purchase wraps for the springs. Ford had these as after market items. High end cars used them.

Re: Storing restored model A without a garage or carport

Re: Need A LOT of help with Model A inheritance
