Re: Replacing typical rust areas on the 1930 Model A truck

I spot weld the panel in with MIG then finish weld with TIG. If you want to use a MIG, spot weld the panel in, then spot between the spots bouncing from end to end and you could stop and cool with an...

Re: Radius rod rubber ball replacement.

While i appreciate everyone that took the time to respond, I was actually only asking about lubrication of the ball, not how authentic the rubber ball is for a Model A or IF I should use the rubber...

Re: 4 post lift

This is the first I've heard of this. I have, however seen that picture before. I wasn't there when this happened but I am pretty certain that the wreck was caused by someone lifting by the body and...

Radius rod rubber ball replacement.

My car has the rubber ball radius rod repair on it and the ball is pooched so I am replacing it. Should it go on dry or lube it?. If it is to be lubed, lube inside, outside or both?. If so, regular...

Re: 4 post lift

Looks like the same 2 post i have. Bend pac, 10,000 lb, asymmetrical low profile. When I set mine up I went with the wide stance thinking about door clearance then found that the front arms BARELY...

Re: 4 post lift

I'm thinking more that it is photoshopped. The yellow bar across the top is the safety switch to prevent such an occurrence and the bar appears to be still in the neutral position and not bent at...

Re: 4 post lift

While it is true that you can get some real worthless junk out of China, It's wrong to automatically assume that its junk just because it is Made in China just like it is wrong to automatically...

Re: 4 post lift

ANY lift is better that no lift. Buy what suits your needs. If you want to store cars on it and do general maintenance (grease and oil changes), I would get a 4 post IF you have the room. Of course...

Re: Why Grease should not be used in a Steering Gearbox

Personally, I run CHG in my steering gears and should the bushings prematurely fail, I will change them and switch to oil. Not a big deal. I reality, corn head grease would likely work perfect in the...

Re: Marvel Mystery Oil

I've use MMO and seafoam and like them both. I have a'74 Ford 1 ton that was parked for a long time and i needed to use it. I drained the fuel and put in fresh and got it started but it ran poorly....

Re: Diesel Conversion

That's a good question. I don't know. I boxed the frame "just because". The engine is about the same weight as the banger and only 70HP so It wasn't necessary but I boxed it anyway.

Re: Diesel Conversion

Thanks. One of the reasons i chose this engine was that it is exactly the same length as the stock banger and is simple like the banger so it looks right at home in there. I am also using the...

Re: A working Sedan Delivery

It's a wonderful photo. There's nothing "mystical" about the physics, just some misunderstanding of how much a little South bend like that actually weighs. I suspect (but don't know for sure) that...

Re: A working Sedan Delivery

That's not a very big lathe. Like I said, I have a 9x40 south bend and the lathe itself weighs about 200 pounds. There is no comparison, weight wise to a little SB like that an a bigger lathe with...

Re: A working Sedan Delivery

I don't think it would be that bad. The lathe, bench and tooling in the pic would weigh MAYBE 400 pounds, that just the weight of two guys riding in the back. If a Delivery can't handle the weight of...

Re: A working Sedan Delivery

OK, now THAT is cool. I am doing a '31 DD right now and i have an old 9" south bend, not quite as old as that one but similar. That would have been a great way to finish off mine if I hadn't taken a...

Re: Crazy temp gauge idea

I have a moto meter on mine and the only time it registers anything is when it's too late. It doesn't touch the coolant so it only reads steam. I put a temp gauge in mine and wouldn't run without it...

I understand what you are saying and in some circumstances, would agree but not all (most?). However, be that as it may, I appreciate people sharing opposing...

Re: Ford Model A Camshaft Inspection and Evaluation

My dad was born and raised on the prairies where -30 to -40 is common. In 1955 he moved to the coast (north of vancouver) and the first winter he almost froze. On the thermometer it only got to maybe...

Re: Ford Model A Camshaft Inspection and Evaluation

I see it the exact opposite. By that way of looking at it, why go to school to be a mechanic in the first place (as an example). Just learn by trial and error, problem solving by the seat of your...

Re: Ford Model A Camshaft Inspection and Evaluation

Perhaps but no moreso than posting a picture of your car every chance you get even if it is only remotely relevant to the discussion. The only videos that annoy me are the ones with a lengthy...

Re: Bone Stock or Modified?

It's always "simpler" to just leave it as it is rather than making modifications/changes. It is a LOT simpler to stay with mechanical brakes than to convert to hydraulic and if someone wants those...
