Re: Car runs great without oil bath air cleaner.

That Holley teapot would take a pretty tall, maybe double stacked dry filters just due to the design of it. Does yours still have the little disk on top? I lost mine, had a new disk fabricated and I...

Re: Car runs great without oil bath air cleaner.

I wondered if it was just my imagination but it seemed like my 52 accelerated better without the oil bath air cleaner too. I've heard that the oil baths can be converted to a dry filter if you don't...

Re: Is there an adjustment to auto-chokes?

My 52 was converted to manual choke years ago. The plastic cover on the left side is the adjustment for making the choke come on sooner or later. There is an idle speed screw over on the right side,...

Re: Keeping hub caps on

Depending how fussy you are about "correctness" I think there is quite a range of caps that fit and look good. I acquired a pair of fifties "Meteor" caps that fit perfect on my 52 Merc.

Re: Keeping hub caps on

I feel just the opposite on radials vs bias. The steel belted radials seem to feel every little rock in the road. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention 50+ years ago when riding in the Merc with my...

Re: Keeping hub caps on

I only have one surviving full wheel disk for the 52 Merc and I won't drive with it anymore. It just won't stay on and as some say it might be because I'm using radial tires. I use the small "dog...

Re: Chasing down the allusive stumble

I've been living with that same annoying stumble on my 52 for years. All original equipment. All I have done is adapt my driving style to give an extra quick pump on the gas pedal when I want to...

Re: Canada Day Car Show

Thanks Mark. Yes, my nephew drives the Chevy II whenever we get to a show. Good to have a "support vehicle" along although the Merc performed flawlessly. Hoping to get some video of the show and...

Canada Day Car Show

I was the only flathead Ford rep at the local Canada day car show today. Not a big show but good turnout for a small town. The old Merc ran fast and smooth at 60+ and what a treat to get on smooth...

Re: 6 V Tachometer

Thanks, they are more expensive than I'd expected. Only 3500 rpm but that would be plenty for most flatheads unless they are into racing.

Re: A Look Inside The Merc

Thanks Mark. I've got a 4 minute video from the drone following the Merc on the winding trail through the woods. I'll get it edited and uploaded soon I hope.

A Look Inside The Merc

I'd had a request to show the interior of the 52 Merc so shot a bit of video yesterday. Remember, its a driver/survivor, not a show car. I finished up with some oil filter information as I was doing...

Re: What's that noise? Starter bendix fail. Let's find it and fix it! Mart's 32 Sedan

That was some good information Mart as I've nver had one of those starters apart before. I was lucky enough to acquire a spare for free recently which looks like it will fit the 52 Merc.

Re: Evening Drive In The Merc

Mark that drive to work would be the high point of my day. I don't get to do that since I live in my work. I'll take the Merc out on crop tours though.

Re: Evening Drive In The Merc

Thanks for looking. The 52-53 instrument panel and dash is one of my favourite features on the car. The advertising of the day called it the "interceptor panel".

Evening Drive In The Merc

Took a longer trip in the 52 Merc yesterday evening to check out a few things. Weather was variable but I did not have to use the vacuum wipers thankfully. That car has not been rained on in seven...

Re: Flathead 8BA RPM

I guess on a related question, are there six volt add on tachometers available for those of us still running six volt systems?

Re: Flathead 8BA RPM

I remember riding with my uncle in his 49 Mercury M68 (3/4 ton) and the flathead sounded like it was really screaming at highway speeds. Probably in the 50 mph range. At 60 I'd guess it would be...

Re: Vintage Decals For The Merc

This decal seemed quite good condition and stuck well but then it was the "newest" one being from the 1980s. I have not yet tried the 1955 one. I've seen the vintage decals for sale on ebay for quite...

Vintage Decals For The Merc

I've always liked the old window decals cars used to have when I was a kid. Usually souveniers of a park or historic site. I've had a couple of them here that I finally got around to trying one out....

Re: National Drive Your V-8 Day, 6/18/22 !!

Looks like today won't be my day to drive. It was so hot this afternoon at 90 degrees, humidity way up too. I worked a bit in the shop on the Merc with the doors closed as it was cooler in there....

Re: National Drive Your V-8 Day, 6/18/22 !!

I nearly missed the day but hope to get the Merc out this afternoon for a short drive. Supposed to be in the 80s with high heat index humidity so I won't be going too far with it. I was already out...

Re: Mart's 32 at the Pendine VHRA Hot Rod Races. Part 1. Friday and Saturday.

Looks like a great gathering of vintage iron. Your car seemed to run well. Nice display of newer vehicles in the parking lot too.

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

In the Monarch Meteor book by Zavitz. He mentions the Super Deluxe model Mercury was labelled 114X.
