Re: Next step - brake lines...30 Tudor - Guidance?

Well, rotor runout will only push the pads back the same amount as the runout. I've test driven a lot of cars with rotors warped so bad that the steering wheel would shake violently when applying...

Re: Next step - brake lines...30 Tudor - Guidance?

Something else is wrong if your brakes seize from heat! Any pressure buildup from heat will vent into the master cylinder reservoir and out through the cap. Make sure there is about 1/16" free play...

Re: Next step - brake lines...30 Tudor - Guidance?

Oops! I think that you have it backwards. On a disc brake system the only thing that retracts the pads is the slight deflection in the square-cut 'O'-rings that seal the caliper pistons (there are...

[QUOTE=54Merc;2302764]Wanting to replace the vent tube with a better vent system.
It leaks on the floor, and not sure if I have a problem with it since I am blowing oil out the rear main (1 qt every...

Re: Pressurized center main bearing?

That passage is just a dribble feed-gravity flow from the valve chamber. Mains are starved for oil until oil warms up on a cold day. The center main is stressed the most, so needs the most oil. ...

Re: high conpression head ??

Here it is: The best timing advice ever! It is amazing how well Model A engines tolerate ham-fisted mechanics using old seat-of-the-pants methods! However, higher compression and other mods limit...

Re: Cash Value/Sale History of Red Grow's "Betsy"?

Message from Debbie Downer: Maybe a street rodder will win it and install a chromed up small block Chevy!

Re: Donovan 4 Cylinder

The Donovan goes back to what, the late '60's? Seems like I remember an article in Hot Rod magazine back then!

Re: water pump impeller

Dad had a 1930's tractor that used thermosiphon cooling. i remember looking in the radiator when it was working hard on the corn sheller.
I couldn't believe how fast the water was circulating! I...

Re: pinion gear double cup bearing issue

Chances are the pinion bearing locked up sometime in the past due to a small flake of metal circulating in the oil getting caught in the rollers. The metal could come from a broken axle, gear tooth...

Re: 59 352/4 carb

With vacuum operated secondaries the rears do not open until the engine needs the extra airflow (maybe above 4,000 RPM) so off the line your 4 barrel carb is functioning just like a two barrel carb....

Re: 10" Ford Tractor pressure plate

It will have stronger springs to overcome the lack of weights. The tractor engine only revved to maybe 12-1500 RPM so not enough for the centrifugal effect. So you will likely have a stiffer pedal...

Re: Spark Advance/Retard Mechanism

The timing lever moves the points plate in the distributor. Pulling the lever down moves the points plate in the opposite direction of distributor rotation, which causes the points to open sooner,...

Re: Should I convert from 6 volts to 12 volts

I remember in the early '50's Dad parking his '40 at the end of our 1/4 mile long driveway in the winter so it wouldn't get drifted in. When was -35 or lower he would carry a teakettle of boiling...

Re: drilling on powder coated surface

Maybe drill the holes before powder coating? Temporarily install the boards to get everything in position, drill the holes in the right spot, then powder coat.

Re: 47 V8 ignition mystery

Could the replacement distributor have the rotor out of time? That is, could the rotor tip be in between the contacts in the cap when the coil fires? This could cause the spark to jump to ground or...

Re: Ignition Coil Polarity

Many newer cars use one coil to fire two plugs (thus three coils on a V6, etc). The spark travels from one end of the coil to the center electrode of a plug, across the gap, through the head to the...

Re: Model AA Buses produced?? Surviving??

Oh, c'mon! There's a lot of life left in that tire. The cords are not showing yet! Out of economic necessity back then, tires were routinely run down to (even into) the cords.

Re: Teapot CFM?

A tach is far more accurate. A vacuum gauge serves only as a rough estimate because the mixture screws can be adjusted a fair amount without the vacuum gauge needle moving, so you are likely to miss...
