Shims should be set when the engine is Align bored.
What I mean is
When I Align Bore the engine to size, the shims are installed.

I didnt convert the transmission over. I went thru it, cleaned and reassembled with new bearings. I’d imigine it must be missing a thrust washer then. From what I remember this...

I have a 32 Ford that I’m currently working on. Problem I have is it won’t stay in 2nd unless your hold it. Shifts great, runs great.
The car is an Model B engine and 32 transmission....

Its not heating the gear that's the issue the crank will act as a heat sink. The issue is if the flame hits the Babbitt then it will melt. Best to pull the crank and do it on the bench. Generally no...
