Re: F-6 two speed rear won't downshift

Yes it does. That's why I chock the wheels. You would think it would be stuck between gears, but it doesn't. It always drops into low overnight.

I filled the diff all the way up with another 1/2...

Re: F-6 two speed rear won't downshift

OK I tried all the suggestions-nothing worked. I added a helper spring to the arm and that didn't help. Then my son suggested changing the gear lube in the diff. Guess what - there wasn't any in...

Re: F-6 two speed rear won't downshift

I'll try this this weekend. I had a gauge on the valve and it went to zero when I went to low. Seemed to react pretty well from vacuum to zero. I don't think its the valve. I haven't tried...

Unhappy Re: F-6 two speed rear won't downshift

That's the strange thing. It worked before the engine change.
After the truck sits overnight, It drops back into low range. I can drive it for miles in low range. Works fine. Then I shift up to high...

Re: F-6 two speed rear won't downshift

Well, I really don't think its my driving. I drove this all last year and could split shift and downshift on the hills when loaded. This winter I changed the engine and transmission and now I can't...

F-6 two speed rear won't downshift

My vacuum actuated 2 speed won't downshift when the truck is running. I checked the valve and it has 15 inches of vacuum when in HIGH range, and 0 in low range. I watched the actuator on the rearend...

Re: shift tower won't go back on!

No, I put the pin in. Its holding the shifter like it is supposed to. It might be sloppier than it should be though. I'm using my old shifter and pin as the used one didn't come with them. I searched...

Thumbs up Re: shift tower won't go back on!

OK - some progress. I got the tower on and I have most of the gears. When I said I didn't have a shift pattern, I meant the shifter would flop left to right and maybe go into 4th or reverse if I...

Re: shift tower won't go back on!

ok got the cover On! The problem was the reverse slot alignment. I finally got them to align and it fell in. Hoping this nightmare was over - I was disappointed that I have no shift pattern after...

Re: shift tower won't go back on!

Yes, my tower looks like yours. The forks are roughly in the middle and aligned.Should they be difficult to move? Like they are in a dedent? I can't budge them. I rocked the top into place and made...

Re: shift tower won't go back on!

no reverse lockout. In the gear cluster there is a lever that sticks up (reverse slider?)and I can't tell what is supposed to engage it.

shift tower won't go back on!

What am I doing wrong? my "52 spur gear 4 speed doesn't want to go back together. When I sit the tower down, line up the forks to the grooves , the tower sits about 3/8" high. When it slides left or...

Re: Boot for shifter and Brake 1952 F-6

Yes, that is one I was looking at for a Jeep. I'm going to put the brake onto the tranny and measure the distance between levers this weekend. I think that one will work. This is definitely not a...

Re: Boot for shifter and Brake 1952 F-6

Well, I was hoping that someone had come up with a dual boot that works. My floor looks like a chainsaw murderer went after it. There are big gaps and little plates all over except between the gear...

Question Boot for shifter and Brake 1952 F-6

Has anyone found a boot for the shifter and parking brake on a truck? I'm looking to close in the gaping hole in the floor between the two. I also need one for the PTO lever too. Are these available...

Re: Old or newer 8BA?

What did you paint that engine with? If it looks 1/2 that good after its run it would be awesome.

Re: Hairline Crack

I'm amazed it can be repaired. I have the exact same crack as EAGLE43 running from the cylinder wall of #3 to under the hardened valve seat and the valve guide. Machine shop told me it was junk. I...

Re: Old or newer 8BA?

That is a nice looking motor. Interesting viewpoint on power. I don't think my dump truck will see any difference in motors. I found a '52 truck motor that I think I'll use.

Re: Old or newer 8BA?

I didn't see the half bell on the block I was looking at. But I saw that center outlet in the head. Am I wrong that its a pre-49 block? When did they change the heads to the front outlet ?

Old or newer 8BA?

I have a '52 F-6 dump truck with a cracked block. I have found some flathead blocks from the earlier vintage '39-'48 with the center water outlet in the heads. Will I be giving up anything in...

Re: How are the cables hooked up to a Type 94 carb?

I saw your PM. Thanks. I'm looking at my carb and it does seem to be a car carb. I'm wondering if I can locate a truck throttle shaft first. If you have one of those too I'm very interested!

Re: How are the cables hooked up to a Type 94 carb?

Interesting - I'm going to trudge out to the barn through the snow and take a look. I don't remember seeing an extended shaft. You're all probably right about the car carburetor. I thought it might...

Re: How are the cables hooked up to a Type 94 carb?

Thanks everyone, that is what I suspected. I have been doing the same thing pulling the choke out to increase the idle. I'm going to study the carb and see if I can figure out where to attach the...
