Re: Play in rear axle

Usually when the inside of the carrier is found worn it is in the area where the three axle shafts of the spider gear assembly are clamped between the carrier halves. The wear is caused by the...

Re: Coil + or -

The pencil trick has been around for ages. High school auto shop teachers loved to demonstrate this to the class, then hand the pencil to the class comedian and have him try it.

Re: arbor shim size for pinion shaft

If the ring & pinion is not damaged there is no reason to replace it. If you are not able to reduce the back lash by moving banjo gaskets you can install shims on the carrier to move the ring gear...

Re: arbor shim size for pinion shaft

I am not familiar with the term arbor shim, but if you are looking for a shim that fits over the pinion gear sleeve Bratton's carrier shim p\n 6071, which is .005 thick will slide right over the...

Re: Options for repairing shift lever ball

The attached article may be of help. We made a jig that attaches to a grinding wheel to grind the ball after it was welded. We were able to do a number of them very quickly.

Re: Pinion assembly installation

The early 1928 banjos do not have support gussets at the torque tube flange and are prone to crack behind the flange. The two axle housing mounting bolt holes on each side closest to the flange will...

Re: Float a motor results

Thirty years ago when I joined the Model A Kingdom float-a-motor mounts were all the rage. I installed them on a number of Model A's I had in the early years. I didn't notice any increased...

Re: Putting oil in distributor shaft.

The crud that plugs the oiler channel is a combination of dirt, oil by-products, and wear particles from the bushings and the shaft. During the life of the distributor housing, if the channel has...

Re: Putting oil in distributor shaft.

Just about all the distributors I rebuild are found to have had the tunnel the oiler fits into plugged solid with crud. This condition will prevent any oil put in the oiler from reaching the shaft...

I suspect that you removed a torque tube during the process of installing the Mitchell overdrive. Use the torque tube to pull the pinion assembly into the banjo. You will need to make some threaded...
