Not sure how taking the generator pulley off will help to get the belt off of the crank pulley. The problem he is having is fitting the belt between rhe crank pulley and the front spring u-bolts.

Is the pitman arm lose on the sector shaft or is there play in the steering box?

As for the drag link plug, mine was a real bear to get started. Maybe get some help, someone with BIG arms... maybe...

Dave Slater, I have one that seems to run on the lean side. I have to run with the GAV opened farther than I would expect. I checked for vacuum leaks and found none. It runs fine with the GAV open...

What you guys are saying could be true with his alternator. BUT, the diodes in the alternator has nothing to do with his coil being warm and him showing voltage at the points when the ignition switch...

Sounds to me as if you have something connected incorrectly or your switch is BO and leaking thru. With switch off there should be zero voltage at the points, if you car is wired correctly.
