Re: spring perches, castle nuts, and cotter keys

Are good originals hard to find?

I have a pair but they are not in good shape. The shackle holes look to be built up by brazing but worn egg shaped. The shock link ball is pretty much square. I...

Re: spring perches, castle nuts, and cotter keys

I bought a pair of repro spring perches from one of the vendors about 5 years ago. I'm just now putting them on. When installing them (while rotating king pin) the threaded shaft on the brake...

Original Grease Gun Rebuild

After cleaning out years of old grease, this is what I have. What do I need to rebuild it?
The deteriorated layered paper gasket/seal(?) was at the bottom of the barrel. Is that suppose to be there?

Re: Another Interior Handles Question

Buy new handles & escutcheons from Steve at Berts and send them to Craig Riker for butler nickel plating. Top notch work and reasonably priced.

Re: Window Riser Handles and "Show Quality" Nickel Plated Escutcheons

Does anyone have a picture(s) of an original scroll handle to post?
Thanks

Re: Window Riser Handles and "Show Quality" Nickel Plated Escutcheons

I just spoke with Snyders. They indicated their window handle does "not look exactly like the picture [on their website] and it does have the vein down the middle."

Disappointing about the part...

Re: Window Riser Handles and "Show Quality" Nickel Plated Escutcheons

Well these are from Bratton's. So now not only do the escutcheons not fit these handles, the handles themselves are wrong. This is quite frustrating! Pictures of the boxes the window handles came...

Re: Window Riser Handles and "Show Quality" Nickel Plated Escutcheons

Do your scroll window handles have the "ridge" down the back? I've had someone tell me that the originals did not have this. I can't tell by the drawing in the JS.

Re: Window Riser Handles and "Show Quality" Nickel Plated Escutcheons

I too am very happy with the current scroll handles especially when replated butler nickel. Of course the USA repro escutcheons are really nice. Unfortunately they don't play well together.

Oh...

Re: Window Riser Handles and "Show Quality" Nickel Plated Escutcheons

Sometimes it helps to sleep on situations.

It occurred to me that rather than making the oversize China handle fit the correct size U.S. escutcheon, I will just get a pair of China escutcheons...

Re: Window Riser Handles and "Show Quality" Nickel Plated Escutcheons

Interesting. I talked to them yesterday and I'm reasonably sure that was not there earlier. If it was, my aplogies. Well I'm glad they added it for others going forward. I realize that it's...

Re: Window Riser Handles and "Show Quality" Nickel Plated Escutcheons

No. Brattons confirmed that off their shelf they do not fit. The butler nickel is pretty much gossamer plating and this problem is way more than that.

Re: Window Riser Handles and "Show Quality" Nickel Plated Escutcheons

I would not replace the handles just have these replated. I was just anticipating the possibilty that visible areas of the handle may get scratched in this process and to a lesser degree rust of the...

Re: Window Riser Handles and "Show Quality" Nickel Plated Escutcheons

Wonder if you cross drill a piece of key stock for the pin and then shave down the handle barrel. The rest of the handle may be in the way.

I have a friend who is a retired tool and die maker...

Window Riser Handles and "Show Quality" Nickel Plated Escutcheons

Has anyone attempted to use the scroll window handles and the escutcheons sold by Brattons? The handles are too big for the hole in the escutcheon.

I called them and they told me they are aware...

Re: Gas Gauge Gasket

Snyders catalog indicates their cork gaskets "are a cork/neoprene blend"
My understanding is all cork gaskets use some type of binding material. What is used for "real"' cork gaskets?

Anyone...
