Try a metric threaded bolt. Sometimes it will grab damaged threads and allow careful tightening when the SAE threads are worn or cross threaded.

We buy Optimas at our local Interstate Battery outlet. Not cheap, but it isn't how much you pay, but how often you do it. Mine have lasted over 7 years with still enough for good starting.
