The springs allow frame flex without putting stress on the radiator.

Do you have the correct style starter bushing and U bolts?

What time period is you car?

Do you have the radiator pads in place? Mine are about 1/8" to 3/16" thick and fit right under the radiator tabs. Also when Ford started the lower crossmember pads is late 29 they added a 1/4" shim...

No, the bolt goes in from the bottom up, then the radiator tabs setting on the frame welt (made from various scrap) then the spring on top of the tab, then the castle nut and cotter pin. BTW my...
