Re: A few questions on a 8BA

You should not have to cut the stems...those are definitely late style valves and retainers. Compress the springs and remove the keepers, shoot some lube on the stems and work the valves up and out....

Re: 3G alternator no charge light wiring

Yep, with 12v to both sides of the bulb it will not illuminate. That's the way most alternator charging system lights function.

Re: 3G alternator no charge light wiring

The wire going to the "I" terminal on the alternator is connected to one lead on the light, and the other lead on the light is connected to power when ign is "on". No other wires should be hooked to...

Re: Driving The 52 Merc

Nice, Ralph...I like the fact you're driving it as much as you can. One of the things I most enjoy about my '41 Merc is taking it out on gravel/dirt roads and cruising along at 30-35 mph just looking...

Re: Starting problem, help please.

The battery is properly connected in positive ground configuration, correct? ('cause maybe I've done such things before....:o)

Re: Turn signal switch

Nothing but perfect operation from my Electro-Tech system, and the communication with them is great. It is a first class company.

Re: remote oil filter, 59 ab, 36 coupe

You can mount that filter setup at any angle you wish to and it will work fine. Most filters like that have an anti drain back valve in them, but even if yours doesn't it's low enough that there will...

Re: Naphtha for cleaning carbs and fuel pumps

If you have gummy sticky brown residue from old evaporated gasoline, acetone is far better than most other "thinner type" liquids.

Marko39 mentioned the same, as well as the "Gunk" brand...

Re: Stuck engine after fuel pump failure

Hate to say it, but it sure sounds like it had enough fuel in the oil to do what dmsfrr said: damage one or more bearings on the crank. Even if you get it to turn it is likely going to fail shortly...

Re: What's my cubic inch?

Quote: "Are you sure that your bore isn't 3.228" rather than your stated 3.328? That would make sense as a +.040" oversize. DD"

...in which case your displacement would be 261.88 cu. in. :)...

Re: engine noise

I've rebuilt a couple of the "small block" Ford sixes (200 and 250 cu.in.) and they do have a tendency (at least with with current lifters) to tick a while after startup. It acts like a bit of air...

Re: No power

First thing I'd do is check to see how far spark will jump with a plug wire disconnected and held near the head with the engine idling. Ought to be blue in color and jump at least 3/8" or there's a...

Re: 81A Big A Heads

Hi Phil

On that '40 the fan with short extension will be mounted directly to the end of the crankshaft. If you look very closely I believe the tip of a blade can be seen near the distributor....

Re: 4-1/8 crank

Exactly. That little tang is no match for a bearing that is going to fail due to lack of lube, overload, lack of crush, etc. I rebuild diesel engines every day for a living and we see it all the time....

Re: Valve lash question

FredA-
I have degreed two "EA" cams and found the lash ramps to end just after the clearances you set yours to. (.013-.015 intake/.017-.019 ex) You should be just fine with the way you have it. ...

Re: 4-1/8 crank

Hi Tim,

I believe what Riddler is saying is he intends to fit the 4.6 bearing inserts as non-floaters....he's removing the locating tangs and using the bearing crush of the resized-to-4.6 spec...

Re: Valve lash question

The valve lash is typically based on the cam lobe's ramp configuration. The rate of lift is lower in the early portion of the valve opening event and the lash is taken up during this time. The amount...
