There will be ID NOS. on the take-out seal. You can use those to either replace or cross-reference.

There is no 'sock' on a 55 FORD. One equipped (later models) would have it attached to the sender unit for easier service.

How old is the tank? Maybe consider a fuel pressure and volume test.

The PN for the correct spring is B4A 9737-C. This may help you find a NOS or repro.

When you feel you have it assembled correctly, please show a new photo.

There is only one spring for the 1954 239CI, whether S/T or A/T.

Both of you cars is a 2V?

Can you show a photo of the 2nd spring install?
