Install the coil on the distibutor before installing the distributor on the engine. Once on the engine, you cannot be sure the coil spring and carbon button are properly placed. They are both easy...

Im betting the new electronic will not work with a new "Skip" coil. If your plug wires worked before, no reason to think they wont work now. Calling Bubba, come in Bubba!!!

Flatjack is spot on. It can be very easy, especially on the car, to not get the spring in the right place. Check there first.
