In thinking about this for a moment or two, I think the plan of action for you is to remove the oil pan and remove the rear main cap. This will allow the crankshaft to drop by a couple thousandths...

Not sure how you are going to do it from beneath with the crankshaft in the way. Generally speaking, a Babbitt-man will use asbestos to plug the hole so the soft metal won't flow into the tube. If...
