Re: DOT5 in Minnesota; keep trying or switch to DOT3?

Thanks guys. appreciate the input.
Dave, yeah, I'm guessing my long battle with "weeping" at the M/C connections (enough to leave a spot on a clean shop towel), if I'd ignored it, would probably be...

DOT5 in Minnesota; keep trying or switch to DOT3?

Hi,
I started my rebuild of my '57 chassis with DOT5 silicone brake fluid. Had a devil of a time getting all the connections to stop weeping, but finally did. Then, discovered the wheel-cylinders...

Wesenberg EVR- voltage cycling problem

hi guys,
Have any of you with Tom Wesenberg EVRs had problems with the charge "cycling" from nothing to full charge and back again? If so, were you able to solve the problem?

I had posted...

Re: Original Cutout won't pass current

UPDATE; finally decided to tear apart my original cutout, and found that the inner (voltage circuit?) wire was cleanly broken off just at the bottom of the coil assembly, leaving nothing for me to...

Re: Tight correct headlight connectors, still shorting!

UPDATE: I connected a bulb across the fuse clamps, and finally found what I think is the culprit. The third (empty) post inside the headlight socket on one side is just a bit too close to the two...

Thumbs up Re: Tight correct headlight connectors, still shorting!

Thanks guys. Good tips, I never looked INSIDE the connector, as that part is original.
YES, I do have the “correct” Brattons flat-head connectors (replaced the older bullet-head harness I used to...

Question Re: Tight correct headlight connectors, still shorting!

Thanks. Won't say "couldn't be", but unfortunately over those 13 years, I've only put 2000 miles on it, it sits at my dad's farm and gets driven about twice per year :-( And have all new wiring...

Re: Tight correct headlight connectors, still shorting!

Additional question: I saw in a post that you can use a bulb in place of the fuse for testing, to avoid blowing a bunch of fuses. I’m confused, the bulb would blow just like a fuse, wouldn’t it? ...

Tight correct headlight connectors, still shorting!

hi,
I restored my 30 coupe several years ago, completely new wiring, etc. No issues until a recent drive and blew a fuse when turning the headlight switch on. Was counseled likely culprit was the...

Re: Original Cutout won't pass current

Thanks. Watching the You-Tube video, the last "by the way" moment COULD be key; I simply relied on the screws holding the cutout in place for ground (just like a starter..). Long shot, but will...

Original Cutout won't pass current

hi,
I have a Tom Wesenberg (oh how I miss my friend!) EVR on my generator, and have put up with the "all or nothing" charging while using it with a diode-type cutout. Finally learned that his EVR...

Re: gastank shutoff valve leak at threads- options?

thanks.
Yes, re: threads. Or, at least I wiped it off several times, and then later felt ONLY along gas tank/threaded area. And always damp. Brand new valve (not that they can't be bad). Would...

gastank shutoff valve leak at threads- options?

hi,
just installed a new shut-off valve on dad's 29 roadster. Have always used Permatex high-tack on these, and never had one leak (or similar threads).

Was disappointed a week later to come up...

Re: Voltage with Optima AND an EVR

UPDATE: after considering the layout of the horn button, and viewing a nice article that showed the button, bezel, spring and lever all apart, I remembered how it really worked and simply "rotated"...

Re: Voltage with Optima AND an EVR

thanks all. Good food for thought; not sure if I'll get to it today (modern car winter-prep on Labor Day up here, on vehicle #2 oil and filter and air filter change right now...) Will post any new...

Voltage with Optima AND an EVR

hi guys,
I'm running a stock generator, except with Tom's EVR, and also an Optima battery. I had noticed my horn didn't have any 'oomph" unless I was running, and then only when the EVR decided to...

Re: DMV primer

In Minnesota, they apparently issue (or did 30 years ago?) an ID sticker that was supposed to be applied to the firewall. When I restored my 30 coupe the first time, back in 1980, from a doodle-bug...

that is most impressive, both original idea and implementation. Thanks for sharing! I've already sent it to a couple non-ModelA guys who just love engines. :-)

Re: high-amperage generator output; how much is too much?

Kevin, I have an industrial Fluke Multimeter, but it is only rated for 5amps and afraid I'd burn her out on this task. I only use it for voltage and continuity testing.....

Re: high-amperage generator output; how much is too much?

I'm using Tom's EVR also. So, no '3rd brush' to adjust and limit the max amperage.

high-amperage generator output; how much is too much?

hi,
my stock generator (rebuilt armature and coils) has an EVR which seems to work a little differently with my Optima battery. It is typically 'all or nothing' charging, no or low charge until the...

Re: '28-29 radiator needed

Not sure how to delete this, so will at least update. Dad found out he doesn't have coverage (had comprehensive, but not 'collision'!) and is not covered even though it was simply a parking incident...

Re: reading spark plugs after using gasohol

CCWKen, love your avatar; what kind of car is that? Reminds me of a '57 Studebaker Golden Hawk, but isn't that, I know.
