Re: My "new" 260 inch Merc is a BEAST!

That is a neat installation. I'm trying to figure out what you gained by using the pumps with the set back pulleys.

Re: gasoline

Re: 1940 Ford Gas tank Fuel Outlet fitting pick up Question

If you are talking about the oval hole in the plastic tank, I'm pretty sure it goes to the top as a support for the tank bottom.

Re: Gas and ways to seal

Threads don't seal it. Depending on the application, the flare or ferrule does the sealing. The threads provide pressure for the seal.

Doesn't a ford speedo have the cable connection threads on the OUTSIDE?

Re: No fire from coil

Since the fire from the coil is checked to ground before the distributor, I would first clean the point contacts, check for freyed or shorted wire in the distributor, then replace the condenser.

Re: Od solenoid with a key on the plunger

I'm sure you have opened up more solenoids than I have, but shouldn't all plungers have a feature that prevents the shaft from rotating and pulling out of the pawl?

Sorry, I was typing when...

Re: 55 with a 302 engine/ Timing question.

It is important to check total advance as well as initial. IIRC, total mechanical and initial should be 36-38 degrees. When the vacuum is connected it can be around 50 degrees. I ran a 302 on regular...

Re: Ford tremec rts t170 transmission

frnkeore's table seems to confirm tubman's formula. so: 1/1.26= .79365 and 1/1.36=.7353 for the ratios of the Mitchell overdrive. They aren't as far apart as I suspected. I'm glad to get that settled...

Re: Overdrive solenoids

Did you check the replacement switch? The one you took out could just be stuck. You might try some pliers to pull the stem back out.

Re: T85 transmission, T86 differences

I have no experience with mixing them, but it makes no sense that they would not interchange since both transmissions came in the same model cars.
