Re: Trying to ID a FoMoCo camshaft

If you have a clean used cam, it can be reground to nearly any spec you want.

Re: Edsel transmission leak

Before tearing into the trans, put in a bottle of Lucas trans leak repair. It works wonders on old dry seals. Go for a twenty mile ride and return, it may help.

Re: 56 engine mount

If you are dealing with a 54, 55, or 56 passenger car, you can safely do away with the steady rest. Because some aftermarket motor mounts have a questionable quality, I drilled my side mounts to fit...

Re: Y Block Normal Vacuum w/mild Perf. Street Cam?

My 312 had some compression, and an Isky cam, and delivered about 11 inches of vacuum. It was enough to make the wipers run well, unless it was in fifth gear on a hill.

Re: Looking for a better rear end

I used a Ranger Supercab 4X4 with a trailer hitch. It had an axle 56 and 5/8 flange to flange, 3.73 traction loc, and I don't remember what year. About 92 or 93 when the cab got wider, the axles did...

Re: 292 Y Block Electronic Ignition Conversion Advice

Converting to electronic ignition is OK, but be sure the distributor is in perfect condition first. I sent out two distributors to be rebuilt and have a custom curve put in, then went to Pertonix. I...

Re: Replace any tire over 6 years old.

I feel it depends on whose tires are being talked about. Made in China? Don't buy them, or get them off in six years. Not bottom of the line made in USA or Canada? Ten or more years, unless you live...

Re: 1955 t-bird 4.10 gears to replace 3.31

A Ranger rear axle should fit, one from a 4x4 Super cab with a factory hitch should be a 4.10. It will also have the big brakes.

Re: Oil filter adapter question

Mr. Yergin has the answer in post ten. Buy a filter for a 55 Ford and use the fiber gasket. It is stiff enough to not squirt out like the modern rubber gasket.

Re: Fuel Tank Leak Fiasco at Tank '56

The line I'm talking about is not a self tapper, it is from manufacturing. The line is very fine, you need to really look for it. I agree with you on it should seal at the tapper. They dont always.

Re: Fuel Tank Leak Fiasco at Tank '56

I have seen new fitting nuts from overseas with a line down the threads. Fuel would follow the line and leak. I looked through a bunch of them and found older fittings with no line.

Re: FE 390 oil related questions

Be sure to use motor oil with enough zinc to protect the cam and flat lifters in that engine.

Re: 55 F100 Front brake lines

The usually don't go through holes, they are clamped on top of the left frame rail, then to the back of the crossmember to the right side.

Re: T 86 oevrdrve issue

Hot on both sides of a fuse only means the fuse is good.

Re: 55 F100 Kingpins

I never worked on one of that model, but earlier Ford axles had a tapered stud the went through to hold the spindle in place. The nut was the turn stop.

Re: Front end alignment

I visited with a friend who has 40 years experience with alignment. He said on a vehicle with changes such as a different front clip, or serious lowering, he likes these figures. He like three to...

Re: Radial Tire Size for 55/56 Ford

I had a 54, and a 55. Both were lowered a bit, and both had radials. I found that 225-70R15 on stock wheels would fit in the wheel well, but getting them in there was a bear. I had to remove the nuts...

Re: Gas Smell Inside

Yup, the sender gasket is dried up. Never park inside with a full tank and it won't bother you. Removing the tank is a bear the first time.

Re: Y-block spark plug wire routing?

You are on the right track on the right parts to use, but it has been a while since I did mine. Look up Tim McMaster on facebook and look at his pictures, I'm sure your questions will be answered.

Re: weird hesitation

It sounds like a lean condition. I would check the accelerator pump first.

Re: 292 vacuum leak

Y block gaskets for the intake can be put on wrong. At first they look the same. Lay each one on the head to make sure they are on the correct side before the intake goes on. I like to use the studs...

Re: fuel line insulator

A one inch spacer should help a lot. Also, set the float to the lowest level the book gives, more room to percolate without overflow into the engine.

Re: 272 oiling issues

I would remove the rocker shafts to open the lines as much as possible, then plumb a line into the oil galley. There are several places along the lower left side of the block to do this. Then give it...

Re: Looking for some one to grind a camshaft

Berry Cams in Lester Prairie Minnesota has done two for me, it has been a few years.
