80 pounds if you are using an aircraft style leakdown tester, dual gauges with an orifice between them.

If you are just checking for leaks line pressure is okay.

Shorten the lower shaft by grinding and filing or milling if you can until the dist. sets down flush with a little end play in the upper shaft.
If you buy a new shaft it will probably be too...

.0015 to .002 press fit with a shoulder at the bottom. Freeze sleeve, warm block and drive in with a Hardwood block then file flat or mill deck.

Use a 56 ford 12 volt generator, Put your front plate/mount on it and screw the pulley on. It has a small rear bearing so use the small bearing end plate.

Run a bead around the bearing surface with a arc welder and let it cool , it will shrink and fall out.

It does matter!
If you put it in theHot/ungrounded cable the hot post of the battery and the cable to the switch will still be hot with the switch off.

If you put it in the ground cable nothing...

I built one of these from Larry,s plans and it works great. The only improvement I could see would be to use Acme threaded rod in Grade 8.

The early mercury 40/41 used the steel sleeves also and it was 3 3/16"
Same bore as an 8BA.

I like studs for the same reason ,less wear and tear on the block threads.
On studs the wear is on the steel threads of the stud and nut instead of the softer cast iron threads of the block.
