Re: Checking radiator for overheating problem with 1956 Thunderbird

Amazon has a pretty good selection of round tuit goods.

Re: Checking radiator for overheating problem with 1956 Thunderbird

Snake oil may reduce or seal your transmission leak temporarily but eventually it will start leaking again, and maybe worse than it is now. It works by swelling the seal which also softens it while...

Re: 1957 Ford Country Sedan Transmission Question

If it's the original transmission it's a Fordomatic which does start in 2nd if you have the gear selector in the D position. No need to start out in low unless you just want to, although with 2.79...

Re: 1956 lincoln premiere

The ball joints I could deal with, but I think I'd be looking at installing an AOD and a modern ignition and carb to improve gas mileage. We're talking about a car that got maybe 10 to 12 mpg on a...

Re: 55 crown power window motor

Yup, they have 'em. In fact they're the only outfit I found that service the quarter windows for our hardtops and convertibles. The hardest part of the installation was getting the quarter windows...

Re: 55 crown power window motor

I went with the Nu-Relics system for my car, but it has been converted to 12v. I did quite a bit of research before buying. Nu-Relics beats the others hands down IMO. I'm not aware of any aftermarket...

Re: 55 crown power window motor

I have the 6v motors, relays and the window regulators out of my '55 Merc I'll sell. PM me if interested. Yeah, keep your fingers and other appendages out of the way when raising the windows, they're...

Re: Zinc anode for radiator

Standard bought out most of their competition some time ago. Sorenson, Borg Warner, Echlin. Their Four Seasons A/C division bought out Everco and Murray, too. I think they now have the lion's share...

Re: Zinc anode for radiator

Ships do have anodes on their hulls. The anodes are usually replaced about every 3 years or so when the ship goes to dry dock for routine inspection/maintenance. The props are made of bronze alloy...

Re: rocker arm oiling problems on Y block

My 292 runs at about 40 PSI warm regardless of RPM. It starts cold at 50 PSI and drops to 40 as it warms up. I use a mechanical gauge.

Re: rocker arm oiling problems on Y block

The toilet paper filter was actually pretty good at its job, it would filter out finer particles than a regular filter and much cheaper. It was a common JC Whitney item back in the day.

Re: Zinc anode for radiator

Back in one of my previous incarnations I was a field rep for Standard Ignition. At that time the local power company, HL&P (Houston Lighting & Power, aka., Houston Looting & Pillaging) was using big...

Re: 1956 lincoln premiere

I see Schmidt actually did have the testicular fortitude to quit over the atrocity Ford wanted to commit on the Lincoln. Good for him!

Re: 1956 lincoln premiere

Dave, for '57 it looks like Ford succumbed to the tail fin and chrome craze with the Lincoln. Tail fins were a styling touch they avoided except in that one instance. They ruined a design that...

Re: Fender Skirt Seals

I'd lean toward installing the seals after painting. Rubber seals, being flexible, would cause paint on them to crack and flake and cause an unsightly mess IMO.

Re: 1956 lincoln premiere

It would be very difficult to improve the looks of these cars (the '57 update was NOT an improvement IMO). Bill Schmidt was given carte blanche by Henry II to update the nice but somewhat stodgy...

Re: '56 Country Sedan Overheating

Your auxiliary fan may be spinning backward, pulling engine compartment air back through the radiator. I've seen it happen. Usually it will trip the high pressure side of the trinary switch,...

Re: '56 Country Sedan Overheating

The 1st thing I see is your shroud prolly isn't doing much of anything. You need about 2/3 the width of the fan blades inside the shroud for best efficiency. The best shrouds are full coverage so the...

I suggest copious amounts of your favorite penetrant before trying to loosen the bolt. Good luck!

Re: 1956 lincoln premiere

Kanter is a little bit expensive but he often has parts you can't find elsewhere. Just my opinion. You should also get the repair manual for your transmission.
