Re: Just bought a 31 roadster- Questions 1 at a time

Ditto the above re ditch that fan. It WILL fail and the consequences could be fatal
I reserve judgement on the wiring without being able to see it in person.
BTW, Nice car!

Re: Electric Model A's

It's been a while now but I recall seeing an article about a company here that converts fossil fuelled cars to electric and they showed a Model A after it was done. I don't recall where I saw it so...

Re: distributor swap out question

The timing could be anywhere. The chances of it being close enough to run the engine (without damage) is very slim. I'd either fix the distributor that came out (what was the problem) or get the...

Re: 354 Ring an Pinion

IMO, You are quite right. I have a Mitchell O/D in all 4 of my Model As and one of their synchro gearboxes in one. I drive all of them like a 5 speed, especially the one with synchro in the gearbox.

Re: 354 Ring an Pinion

No. I figure if I get a flat, I put the same size wheels on the back and the others on the front so the diff is not working all of the time. It would only be for a very short time till I mend he...

Re: 354 Ring an Pinion

In our club, there are plenty of guys running 5.25 X 21 tyres front and back. I run them on the rear only for the bigger footprint (more grip) and longer legs.
BTW, I run them with an O/D. The...

Re: Model A Fuel Tank Tap outlet thread size???

The tap outlet is a flared fitting - the nut on it is 5/8"X18 TPI. (5/8 UNF.)
Hope that is what you need.

Re: 354 Ring an Pinion

Tomscott, what year is your car? If it has 21 inch wheels, you can get the same overall gearing by fitting 5.25X21 tyres - about 5% higher. They are 6 ply rated so the walls are thicker and they are...

Re: Pressurized center main bearing?

You'll get several different answers to that series of questions. Oh, and BTW, there cannot be too many questions.

If you pressurize the center main bearing why not all three?
In my case, I was...

Re: spark plugs

I have used TT10s for many years and I'm a bit pissed that they seem to be disappearing. All of the others are way too expensive over here for my pocket so my solution has been to make a set of...

Re: My new Ford.

Where is your Ford made? Since they stopped making Ford here, they are just another imported car rebadged for the local market. I bet it's made in either Malaysia or China, maybe Japan. Certainly not...

Re: My new Ford.

My guess is it will have come back several times in 100 years as who knows, a microwave oven, razor blades or maybe even several Chinese cars. while all the time, the A marches on.

Re: Model B engine in an A

I imagine the situation over there is pretty much like here. I went to an ignition specialist and asked them to make me a distributor to my specs. I'm sure FS will be able to put something together...

Re: Finding a nice Model A

The paint was applied when the car was restored a few years ago and is a 2 pack paint. My experience is that those colour matching scanners are OK with pale colours but become less useful as the...

Re: Safety cage?

I did something very similar with my 1930 CCPU. I used 50X50X3 mm square tubing which I ran right behind the B pillar, then over the door and braced it to the A pillar. I figured I couldn't do much...

Re: Pressurized center main bearing?

SAJ, you are spot on with that post. I have seen pictures of modifications done to an A engine where plumbing is added tot he valve chamber to force oil down the original oil passages to the main...

Re: Model B engine in an A

As I have posted before, my firm belief is the reason for so many B blocks cracking is related tot he crappy distributors Ford used on them. After not so much use, they don't advance fully which...

Re: Pressurized center main bearing?

Neil is quite correct. The sole purpose of oil in the engine is to keep the bearings cool. The fact that it is slippery helps. Guys who race these engines set their bearings with a wider clearance...

Re: Model B engine in an A

The Model B engines are more prone to cracking than the A engines so before you make any decisions, I suggest you have the B engine crack tested. If it is sound, it will be a decent upgrade. The...
