Re: High Compression Head

The marketed "high compression " heads have a different shape combustion chamber. Due to the shape of the original Model A head, shaving the head will have little effect on the combustion ratio.

Re: Swapping out a steering box options

Keep in mind that there are two different 2 tooth steering box shaft lengths for the Model A. Some of the later '29 cars had the two tooth box with the '29 steering jacket and a 43 inch steering...

Re: snap on door arm rest for 1931 roadster

The door protector pads are in the current Classtique Upholstery catalog but are a bit pricey at $500. a set for the Stayfast canvas set. I too want a set. Perhaps someone else may offer a set

Re: Problems With TR83A Valve Stems

Many thanks for the update. Apparently the reproductions I purchased were made from the incorrect Ford print (5/16"-32) instead of using the correct Schrader valve thread.

Re: Problems With TR83A Valve Stems

The thread is an external 8V1 thread: 0.305 in (7.747 mm) x 32 TPI (1 ⁄ 32 in or 0.7938 mm pitch; tap size 8v1-32). Note that this is not a standard metric or USA thread. It is a standard Schrader...

Problems With TR83A Valve Stems

I recently purchased several repro TR83A metal valve stems from a major Model A supplier to install in my 19 inch tubes. Upon installation, I found that the valve cap ordered at the same time would...

Re: Model B water pumps

I came across 2 of the recent reproductions in the not so distant past and each one had a casting flaw. Those repros were just junk. It is good advice to find an original casting.

Re: Carrier Bearing PreLoad Tool

I seem to remember making the one I use out of a Model T spider gear yoke. It had an open center. I made a plug for the center and welded it in place. I drilled and tapped the center for a bolt....

Re: Diagram to make terminal box switchable

If you are concerned with the internal gauge lights, another way is to connect the gauge light into the taillight light circuit, not the stop light circuit. That way it will come on whenever you...

Re: Cracked 'B' head.

If the crack runs from a water passage hole to a stud hole, a simple repair can be made. Cracks between water jacket holes do not create a problem. I have had them repaired by having an automotive...

Re: KO Lee Valve Seat Cutter

What you have is a K O Lee valve seat insert cutter tool. This tool is made to cut the relief into the block or head surface so that a valve seat insert ring can be put onto the head or block. It...

Re: Oil Usages

OK, I will ask here what is excessive oil usage? I do this because Volvo recently published data claiming that up to a quart in about 600 miles isn't considered excessive oil consumption by their...

Re: Piston Height Above Deck

For many engines, the block has been decked during an overhaul and this process also changes how far above the deck the piston top protrudes.

Re: 2 tooth steering column tube

Yes, there is a slot in the lower end of the steering column tube to allow a compression fit on the upper steering gear bearing race. If it is difficult to "pinch" the tube tight enough with the...

Re: Is this evidence of a damaged block?

That area of the block is prone to cracking. Sometimes this comes from adding water to a very hot engine. If it is cracked, a repair can be made with the epoxy putty products after cleaning the...
