Re: Late 31 stop light switch replacement

The switch is simple and if its a well made unit it can be fixed easily. It just bolts in place as mentioned and the rod can be adjusted.

Re: Oil Leak

I don't use gasket sealer on the shims. I use it to hold the gaskets in place, especially a little extra where they meet one another.
Time does go by pretty fast, faster the older we get.

Re: Oil Leak

i set them at .0015" or a bit tighter.
I use gasket goop to hold them in place and where they meet.
Maybe a dial indicator could be set on the front pulley or front of flywheel to check end play....

Re: Rear axle shaft nut, how to turn on

The axle shaft to hub nut is 100-125#. Tighten to about 100# and then tighten until cotter can be installed. If you're talking about the wheel fasteners/lug nuts, they are 55#.

Re: Oil Leak

Hi Ed, I too have not seen leaks from the bolts. But, I use a little 'goop' when putting all that together. You said you adjusted the bearings, what were they and what are they now ? I tend to set...

Re: 12 volt conversion

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that the generator will work fine on 12v.

Re: Introduction - from Syracuse, NY

Welcome. I'm not far away and am an old Triumph fan/rider [ Valkyrie now though]. I'm thinking you'll enjoy the 'A'.

Re: Ignition, way of

As mentioned, just set the timing the proper way [ using the timing pin] and then use your left hand to set the advance lever where you want it.

Re: Radius Rod Question

There are far more reasons for the 'death wobble' than just the wishbone ball.

Re: 1929 transmision

I don't believe you can install later model synchro parts in the A box. Ford's first synchro started in '32 [from what I remember] with changes until '39 which is the preferred early box. And there...

Re: Modern points

I'm another that doesn't have an issue with the 'modern' plate as long as the pig tail is used along with quality points/condensor.

Re: To soak or not to soak

Have seen that a number of times. Had to replace some seals that were greased or installed dry and then burnt to the point of not sealing.

Re: Battery- Again

Why doesn't it hold a charge ? Is there a reason ? Have you checked for a draw ? Just disconnect a battery terminal [ at the starter will work] and stick a test light between cable end and terminal....

Re: What strange comments or questions have you heard about your Model A

Yep, had many comments over the years, most good. One fella said, like others, his family had a Model T just like it. He got mad and argumentative insisting it was a T.

Re: Tail light problem

Some of the lights [ can't remember the brand] have the upper and lower lights connected requiring the wire between them to be cut. That should be with the literature.

Re: Front brake problem

Hmm, thats strange. My first thought is a bad bearing, but, that should have been found by now. Does the pedal change at all when this happens ?

Re: LED tail lights

I changed to the LED 6v rears a number of years ago. Huge difference in brightness. I was thinking from the first post that you already had the lights. As said, to get them flashing at a normal rate,...

Re: LED tail lights

I've been unable to get an electronic flasher to work on 6v. To use a standard thermo 535 just change the front turns to a higher Candle Power bulb.

The electronic flasher from Brattons is 2...
