Re: Smoke/oil blowing out oil fill tube

Mine is spitting a lot of oil, enough that it is dripping off the oil pan after driving. I assume re-ringing the engine is inevitable, but hopefully not worse than that?

Oil is not overfilled per...

Smoke/oil blowing out oil fill tube

I just swapped a used engine into my '30 Tudor. It is blowing a lot of smoke from the oil fill tube, and even spits small droplets of oil out. I assume that means bad rings, and that I'd have to...

Re: New clutch - should the throw out bearing disengage?

Re: New clutch - should the throw out bearing disengage?

Thanks Ken, the throwout bearing is still spinning with my foot off the pedal. Is there any method of adjustment other than adjusting the pressure plate fingers?

Re: New clutch - should the throw out bearing disengage?

Sorry, I misspoke. The throwout bearing still spins when I release the clutch and the transmission is not in gear. - edited my original post.

New clutch - should the throw out bearing disengage?

I just swapped engines and installed a new clutch. I adjusted the pressure plate fingers to 5/8” per Les Andrews. The clutch works fine, but with the cover off the top of the transmission I could...

Re: Swapping engines, any tips?

Any last tips or things to be especially careful of before I put it back together? I'll follow the Les Andrews book of course. Really want to get it right the first time.

Re: Swapping engines, any tips?

The new engine already has a flywheel housing installed...assuming it was done correctly I shouldn't need to do anything to the shims, right?

Took about 3 hours to get the engine out. The Les...

Re: Swapping engines, any tips?

I'm not removing the head, where do I get the lifting lugs that go in the spark plug holes?

Re: Swapping engines, any tips?

Thanks...any input is helpful.

What parts should I replace while I’m in there?

Swapping engines, any tips?

Over the next few days I’ll be swapping engines in my 1930 Tudor. I’ve done plenty of wrench turning, but never changed an A engine. Does anyone have any helpful tips to share for a first timer?

Re: Engine problem - maybe broken cam

Time to drop the pan...pulled the valve cover and all seems normal there. Piston skirt or rod sounds likely...it was a lot of bad noise, not something small.

Engine problem - maybe broken cam

Just got back from a shortened drive. At idle, the engine made a sudden loud "clack", followed by severe knocking/banging. The sound eased up pretty quick, and the engine kept running. I shorted...

Re: Leaking carb

Fuel Lube will also seal the threads:
https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/ezturnlube.php

It doesn’t harden, is fuel proof, keeps the threads from seizing, great stuff!

Re: Engine runs rough unles GAV is open 3/4 turn

Terrific, thank you Tom! I must be remembering something incorrectly about driving with 1/4 turn max on the GAV.

Engine runs rough unles GAV is open 3/4 turn

My engine idles good, but when accelerating and at higher speeds, the GAV must be open about 3/4 turn for the engine to be smooth and have good power. I remember reading that the GAV shouldn't be...

Re: Sediment Bowl Gasket

Fuel lube will seal it up easy. Coat it with a light to moderate film. Fuel lube never hardens, is a great lubricator for fuel valves, etc.

Is it possible to calibrate a Rex-A-Co Gauge?

My gauge indicates 140F when the radiator is at ambient temperature (80F, etc.). Does anyone know if these can be adjusted/calibrated?

Re: Engine missing at highway speeds

Thanks for all the help everyone, I finally found the problem. As Davey said, it was electrical rather than fuel related. The wire that connects to the condenser in the bottom of the distributor...

Water leak near radiator, where should I look?

There is water dripping slowly from the "brace/tray" below my radiator, but I can't find any leaks at all from the radiator. I've attached a picture of the drip on the bottom of the brace. I can't...

Engine missing at highway speeds

My 1930 Tudor runs fine at low-load and low speed. At highway speed, the engine misses amd surges noticeably. My guess is that it is not getting enough fuel...the finger strainer in the tank is...

Tapping from engine when going from no throttle to throttle

When my engine is “coasting”, in gear or not, and I add throttle I get two or three sharp “clacks” from somewhere in the engine. I’m guessing slack in the valvetrain is causing the noise as the...

Re: Would leaving the ignition on cause damage to the coil?

I installed a new Petronix coil and the car is running great again. Has a huge blue spark vs. a 1/8” orange spark. Really mad at myself for ruining the old coil...it has “Made In USA” on the...

Re: Would leaving the ignition on cause damage to the coil?

Does it burn up the insulation in the coil & cause an internal short? I ordered a new coil...may take this one apart with my daughters after I get the new one.

I normally leave the key in the...
