Re: Placing antique fire distinguisher housing

No picture, but in roadsters I have seen small extinguishers mounted on the horizontal package tray just behind the top of the seat back.

Re: Sticking Starter Switch

I swing my left leg to the right, lift up the corner of the carpet in front of the driver's seat, and snap the electrical cutoff switch, wired into the ground lead, to the OFF position. No need to...

Re: Building a Travel Toolkit

That depends on several factors:

1) Your confidence in the condition of the mechanical and electrical systems of the car. How big of a tool box do you tote around with your modern car? Henry put...

Re: Change

They should have changed the water inlet position from between 2-3 to between 3-4. They also should have changed the water pump from an outlet pump above the cylinder head to an inlet pump below the...

Re: Buying radial tires

That would depend on several things:

1) Are you just a local sort of driver, less than 100 miles from home or do you do longer trips? If (when!) you get a flat, then mixing a bias and a radial...

Re: Which tap and die set

Tough question since Ford, and the industry in general at the time, did not use today's grading standards for either strength or fit. You would have to find the prints/specs (Benson Ford Research)...

Re: Which tap and die set

Ford used rather tight clearance tolerances on many fasteners. If you buy the average tap/die set it will be fit class 2A/2B and you will ruin parts if you use the taps/dies to clean up nicked...

Re: How much better was the last Model A than the first?

Reinforcing ribs added and modified in the block, flywheel housing, banjo. As time progressed they learned where the vehicles on the road developed cracks.

Re: changing to 5.50 Bias Ply = changing to 3.54 ratio

One very slight problem with the above calculations- The measured diameter of a tire is not equivalent to the rolling diameter. Even for tires of the same size, this will vary between manufacturers,...

Re: Odd Failure

Remove the switch from the top of the starter motor. Try a heavy jumper cable directly from the battery to the copper button on top of the motor. If the motor works disassemble the switch. Use a...

Re: Cause of hot ignition coil?

Heat in a coil is also a function of 'dwell'. The less your point gap the more time the coil dwells in saturation mode, heating up from primary coil resistance. If you have a "B" dizzy cam it has a...

Re: How much weight in a attached trunk

You didn't say what brackets you now have holding that unusual (for an A) Packard trunk. Wouldn't be too hard to design and make up stronger brackets, or even an add-on bracket to what you now have...

Re: Bubble balancer from HF?

You may find the springs too heavy for a Model A wheel and tire to compress. You definitely can't set a bare "A" wheel (rim only) on the one my neighbor has and get them to compress. If you...

Re: What correct screws and/or fasteners are needed?

Headlamp focus screws. Originals had a head one wire size larger with a much thinner edge between the oval top and the countersink. They fit the indent in the shell perfectly. You can spot the...

Re: Cylinder leak down test

That depends on your tester. If it has a true calibrated 0.040" orifice the mfg. instructions likely call for anything in the 50-100psi range. The % difference (not the mathematical subtraction...

Re: The Death Wobble Thing, Brakes

Re: The Death Wobble Thing, Brakes

I've posted this before and the question to me with "death wobble" is do you want to fix the symptom or do you want to fix the root problem? Ever wonder why one Model A with everything worn and...
