I ditto Ernie....Try starting with the "new" switch hanging out and not installed. Sounds like a dead ground somewhere close and easy....now that you did the hard work.

Do you have horn, and lights? At any rate if you are sure there is not 6volts on both junction box terminals stop right there. The power goes to the ampmeter before it travels on to "light up" both...

Here is a copy of a post Mike V posted. LOOK at the junction box ...should be power on both sides. If not the Amp gauge is bad. Jump across the two lugs of the junction box to bypass meter.

Are you sure the starter isn't stuck? What happens when you hit the starter? If nothing happens rock the car back and forth.....also could be the tower, a kind of simple fix.

you are vague on the description... I had the starter rod just rubbing on the firewall and the noise was incredible for such a small contact...but the metal to metal was just right to sound much...

I had new points...had to bend the arm to make them actually close. Couldn't see it with eye but test light showed they never closed.
