Original one just about crumbled . Ordered new one from Mac's and it is back ordered. Can I run with wires connected directly to post on generator as long as I disconnect when car is not running?...

I'll put an end to this thread. Car is running. Unfortunately never figured out what was wrong. Pulled distributor, made sure there were no shorts, retimed it, and it started.

I checked all the areas for 6 volts that is mentioned in Ford Model A handbook. Everything looks good so far. I will dive into the distributor tonight. Hopefully I will find a shorted wire in...

I took my car for a 50 mile ride this weekend. Great ride- no problems. Next day I notice a rather large oil spot on the floor- looks like at least a half of quart. Took a quick look underneath...

Had the same issue- no spark at points. In my case I had the cable that screws into the distributor turned in to far and it was shorted out. Turned it out a few turns and fired right up. Sounds too...

Checked the wire coming out of the ignition switch going to the amp meter. Key off there is power. Key on no power. Everything here seems backwards to me but I'm learning.

Already did that. No power to points when open. I can take distributor out - I am very comfortable with that- just a locking bolt on side.

The cable is the heavy type, hard to work with.
