Re: Drain plug

Sounds like a bigger wrench and bigger hammer are needed. It usually takes a big sharp rap to get things moving. I also wouldn't be afraid to use big heat on the case around the plug.

Re: Drain plug

Oops, my mistake. If its that tight still usually a big ass wrench along with a whack of a bigger hammer or cheater should break it loose.

Re: Drain plug

It is right hand thread. If the plug loosened easily then what is happening ? Why won't the plug come out ? I wouldn't be afraid of heating the transmission case or plug.

Re: 1928 will not stay running

You say the ammeter is showing a charge when running. Without the engine running if you turn on the lights does it show a discharge ?

Re: Model A backfire, can't move

You'll probably have to go to a Model A site to get your parts, especially if they are original type points/condenser. Modern type points/condenser are Ford V8 and could be bought/ordered from a good...

Re: Gurgling

Well, if its not vapor lock then I'd recommend checking the coolant temp.

Re: What do you make of this

I don't feel like driving to Lockport so they are sending it. Its on its way. I used to like Macs and talk in person to them, but, that changed some time ago. I've not dealt with them since Ecklers...

I wonder if alcohol had anything to do with that.

Re: model a amp meter

No lights, well, we need to know how the ammeter is hooked up. You could be charging with the ammeter backwards. Or you may not be charging and the ammeter is correct. You appear to be 6v with...

Re: Heavy lifting

Screw jack outriggers. I grew up on a wrecker, built by my grandfather, with outriggers. It was my job as a youngster to go all the screwing.

Re: What do you make of this

Thanks. Never thought of Macs. I stopped using them years ago, even though they are close, due to problems.
A new cable has been ordered.

I don't care for dealing with that fat stiff cable.

Re: Patina makes this too good to restore?

I'd drive the heck out of that monster. I'd try to figure out a way to keep the tire stickers intact. [smiley face]

Re: What do you make of this

Well thats certainly different, and 12v.
I like that primary ignition cable. Wish I had another one. I like the old small diameter flexible replacements. It seems no one sells them anymore.

Re: Gland ring recesses

The only manifolds I have are heater type [3] and they have no droop. So I don't have a problem using rings.

Re: Gurgling

If it is the carburetor that is gurgling, then it seems you are experiencing the dreaded vapor lock. So, how does the engine run after it has set for a half-hour or so ?

I find that installing...

Re: Motor oil coming out back of motor

The angle of the motor probably allowed oil to go thru the bearing and past the slinger. Probably no oil is in the clutch assy, the flywheel is in the way.

Re: Car has Zero Electric

When you mention NOTHING, I have to wonder what that means. Nothing to me means the starter wasn't working either.
That also leads me to the battery connections, all the connections especially the...

Re: Safety first . . .

I learned a lesson long ago, that screwdrivers and eye balls can't occupy the same space at the same time. The eye loses.

Re: Fan cracked!!

A cracked blade is a real eye-opener isn't it !
I don't have a big issue with welding much of anything, but, for the price of a new blade,,,,,,, I'll stick on a new one.
Which I did recently...
