Re: Flathead Oil Pan

Pan looks like in the 8BA family with an unfamiliar (to me) location and angle for the dipstick.

Use something like a gun cleaning wire brush to clean the wire receptacles on the cap, especially the side walls, that's where the contact is made.

Re: Matranga Merc

A simple push button to ground the circuit.
The same as most old Ford solenoids are activated.

Re: 1949 Merc distributor maintenance

Napa does indeed sell a universal 7mm plug wire set with plug ends/boots installed.
The distributor side has to be cut to length as necessary and ends/boots installed.

Re: Trim between upper and lower fender on a 41 Merc

If you are talking about 3/16" dia stainless fender welting, Dennis Carpenter has it, as well as other vendors.
YOU have to cut, fit and form to fit.

Re: intake valve seals??

On an engine with similar symptoms the cure was to add a can of any 'no-smoke' product and run normally. (Rislone, etc. ) (don't over-think it)
