Re: 1955 ford overdrive solenoid seal replacement

I replaced my (adapter) seal when I replaced my solenoid. A couple of things: I'd buy one or two extras. If the solenoid doesn't get reinstalled correctly, or you need to remove it within a short...

Re: 1955 Ford Ranch Wagon V8 Dual Exhaust Tail Pipes

Yeah, that's a good point. I presume the '55's had a tailgate window that would lock-tighten open like my '54. Before the days of (common) air conditioning it might've been common to prop the thing...

Re: 1955 Ford Ranch Wagon V8 Dual Exhaust Tail Pipes

My '54 RW comes out the back, but it's a single exhaust, a year earlier, and possibly not the original exhaust system.

I thought I'd check advertisements and brochures for '55, but it kind of...

Re: y block oil pressure

This is my impression, too, for idle pressures. As I recall, my near brand new S-10 Chevy had idle readings under 10 lb.s (I think) and I was worried and called the warranty center, and they said it...

Re: What are your thoughts on polishing stainless?

I polished the stone guards for my driver quality '54 Ranch Wagon (after putting it off for many years) and I got what I would call pretty good driver quality results. In other words, you'd have to...

Re: y block oil pressure

I agree about needing 180 degree thermostat. And gosh, put another quart of oil in.

To answer your specific question, those oil pressure readings don't seem bad, though they're maybe not...

Re: How to Spot a fake 1955 Convertible???

The OP's talking about unscrupulous sellers who conceal what they're selling.

Re: Install Windshield 1961 Starliner

And don't wait for a rainstorm to see if it leaks. Use a garden hose. :)

Re: Alternator help

Yes the OP wasn't clear on that point. I DON'T want a glowing red gen light when the car is running.

If he means the bulb isn't coming on when the key is turned but before the car is started,...

Re: 55 Ford v8 overdrive cable routing

I agree. I replaced my original overdrive cable because the control wire within the sheath was broken. I believe it was broken because it (the original cable) made too sharp a turn downward coming...

Re: loosen brake line nuts

Yes, that's the number one question. I'd gone years without knowing about them, so it's worth checking if the OP is aware of them.

Also, if the current brake line is a fabricated replacement (as...

Re: Nuts and Studs for exhaust flange to manifold

At this point, it seems I have the problem acceptably resolved. I loosened the clamps at the H pipe to the pipes behind to give some slack, then snugged up the flange connection with new brass nuts...

Nuts and Studs for exhaust flange to manifold

They are universal fit, right? I have a 390 in my '65 Thunderbird, though the engine may be out of a full size Ford or Merc originally. A standard Thunderbird exhaust system fits works on the car.

Re: Where were the Wagons Built?

Okay, so it looks like my '54 Ranch Wagon was actually built in Kansas City. I'd looked it up years ago and that was actually one of the locations floating around in my memory, but as I said, it's...

Re: Those junky Vacuum Wipers on my T Bird

Never been pleased with the wipers on my '54 in terms of function. Keeping the wiper blades new and/or conditioned is the only thing I can think of beyond what you've mentioned. Most of us with old...

Re: Overdrive relay test

Sorry to hear your OD problem came back. I'm curious: if your problem was fixed for a while, how long did it stay fixed?

Just a warning - I bought a new/replacement solenoid and my overdrive...

Re: Where were the Wagons Built?

I think I figured out that my '54 Ranch Wagon was built in either Michigan or Ontario. Can't recall which, but I think it was in that general part of the world. Been a while, so I'll have to check my...

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons

Beautiful car Mercman! I'd love to have a '59 wagon...with the steering wheel on the other side! You're coming up on half a century since you bought that car!

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons

Thanks, 58Yeoman.

I'd heard about the big economic downturn in '58- '59. I was born in '58 and I think that may have caused it. :D

Like the Ford (only a lot more so) some people claim the...

Talking Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons

I agree with pretty much everything you say, KULTULZ! Thanks for the post.

That's what I found a while back somewhere online when this discussion was brought up. Del Rio in '57 and 8. I'd...

Glad it's all fixed!! I agree that the folks who make this tach seem to be top notch.

In my review of the Westach 6 volt unit that I posted a while back, however, I cautioned that their website...

Re: 1962 Thunderbird Ball joint Question

Sounds like great advice. I will contribute something generic, however, from my oem '65 T-Bird shop manual that was apparently important enough for the manual to state in bold print: Don't mistake...

Re: '65 T-Bird fuel pump

That's a great site. I've seen it before and it's a real benefit to old car people.

Thanks Sal. I hadn't thought of that.

Re: '65 T-Bird fuel pump

Good point, 54vicky. I've been able to avoid alcohol infused gas for my old cars pretty reliably around here, which I find ironic given I live in Nebraska (which is kind of a mecca for...
