Re: 62 Bird Tire/tube combo

I've had really good luck with Diamond Back, mostly using premium high performance tires. I've also had a couple sets of Coker's I've been happy with. Never had a balance or out of round problem. ...

Re: My 56 T-Bird is charging correctly now

Pretty good looking junker. Enjoy the ride.

Re: revisiting 1960 Ford 292 Y-Block PCV

I really can't speak to the low front mount draft tube location, I've only worked with the valley pan location. But a baffle is needed to deflect oil droplets or splash in the valley pan. Later...

Re: 15 inch whitewall tires

My BFG T/A' were made in the US, the Nitto's in Japan. BFG is apparently owned by Michelin, Nitto by Toyo. I suspect DB uses a variety of new tires, and undoubtedly some are price point driven.

Re: 15 inch whitewall tires

I've got 2 sets of Diamond Back, one on BFG T/A's and one on Nitto's. Both have been great tires, and the sidewal changes have held up well. Neither are wide whites. I've also got a set of Coker...

Re: Disc brakes on 1967 Mustang problem

Try these guys. They did a rear disc for my bird on the Dana 44. Didn't show on the site, but they could do it. They show a 4 piston front conversion for later cars with the note for "14" wheels"....

Re: I put Radial Tires on my 56 T-Bird

Nice to hear your happy with your "junker".

Seriously, they're an enjoyable car, glad you're making progress.

Re: Disc Brake Conversion

I've got front disc on my 55 I put on in 1999. Pretty typical bird kit, as listed on Hill's site above. I did power, and it used an OEM style booster on the front disc only. The firm I bought it...

Re: 1957 Thunderbird Cooling System

If it's brass top tank, which is what my bird had, you clean it carefully, flux it, and solder the pinhole with a propane torch. You'll need the coolant level down a little (avoid steam) and the cap...

Re: How to clean headliner

If you think it's glue spray, look close and see if the headliner is shrinking or loosening and pulling out. Not that I'd know what to do about that. Then I'd try mineral spirits or paint thinner. ...

Re: 1954 Mercury Monterey Fuses

A member on another site post this wiring diagram company. I've got one of the 24x18" versions for an OT old car. If you're going to be messing with the wiring, they are well worth the money. The...

Re: Dual Point conversion kit

Back in the late 60's I had the Mallory kit to put dual points in the 57 and later distributor. I had a 57 Tach drive distance that came out of a police car that landed in a wrecking yard of a Ford...

Re: Radial Tires and Wire Wheels

When I bought my bird in 1999, it had a set of later model wires, 15 inch, and Coker radials in the near stock replacement size, with tubes. I'm pretty sure they're KH's, similar to,what came on the...

Re: Worm Gear Photos?

I can't help with your question, but I had a little experience with those. The "that is the worse worn steering box I've seen " was removed from my 55 bird (2 tooth) and replaced by a 3 tooth. ...

Re: The gas Gauge doesn't work on 56 T-Bird

Redneck, if those are the junkers and the rattle traps, I'd feel really bad if I saw the nice cars.

Casco and Hills are high on my list also. I tend to use Casco more often, just due to the...

Re: 2 hoses from control valve to ram on 61 full size Ford

I did that once on an old 56 Chevrolet system. When the engine started the wheel spun hard to full lock (hard enough it hurt the guy starting the car) and then puked fluid all over under the car. ...

Re: Test Drive for 56 T-Bird??????

New voltage regulators, especially from overseas are suspect right out of the box. Old wiring tends to get brittle, not only the insulation but the connectors. If it worked, then quit, I'd be...

Re: 62 TBird Master Cylinder

Don't know about your case, but in the past I've had masters that came with a "plug" you put in the bore. Used only with the power booster. Was machined to accept the short rod and the bore.

Re: Nuts and Studs for exhaust flange to manifold

If you can get penetrating oil into the top of the stud (bored thru the exhaust manifold) that would be a start. But my best luck with rust frozen parts has been heat. An old time mechanic told me...

Re: Steering Box

Could very well be a worn box. But my bird, with a rebuilt 57 3 sector box, and all components new, still had a dead spot with some wander on center. The design of the power ram contributes to...

Re: Do T-Birds have trouble have Vaper lock problems like Flatheads?

I've used electric pumps for vapor lock, mostly on tow vehicles and motorhomes. Might watch the pressure, I don't think the teapot carb likes much.

Part of the problem with 'bird's is getting hot...

Re: Fitting the top a Nightmare for sure

You might take some pictures from inside, and describe what doesn't fit. It's hard to tell what the problem is.

IIRC, not only were different latch handles used (front and side) but 2-3...

Re: Those junky Vacuum Wipers on my T Bird

I live just outside Seattle. Hills and rain. I just bought the electric set up. I drove enough vacuum wipers in the old days to know they aren't for Seattle.

Re: I just need to adjust the idle?

The comments on the top are correct, and IIRC you've got both tops. Getting both tops to fit can be a chore, even if you're recovering the convertible top. I finally gave up trying to get my hard...

Re: I just need to adjust the idle?

I know pictures don't tell the whole story. I sense your a bit frustrated working on something different. But that's not a junker compared to what a lot of us started out with.

You've got way...
