Re: 52 Ford flathead fuel pump push rod

The 8BA push rod is 3-piece, and the longer end goes into the block.

Re: Flywheel inspection cover

I don't have any spares, but all full cast iron '51-'53 Merc and '52-'53 Ford car bells use the same starter plates and lower inspection covers, which may make it easier to locate one. :)

Re: Lifting a 8ba engine

The best method I've found is using 3/8" flat stock on the front and rear exhaust ports along with an equalizer. This eliminates using bell housing, head and intake bolts, water pumps etc. The only...

Re: '39 Ford Master Cylinder Adjustment

An important point that hasn't been addressed is to make sure the pedal has it's own return spring that can fully return the pedal. This will allow minimum push rod-to-master cylinder clearance (I...

Re: Dual 94's?

As estout81 stated, the Edelbrock regular dual will allow a stock generator. The main purpose of the "regular dual" design was to allow the stock generator location, so curious why Speedway's does...

Re: A Dennis Carpenter Complaint??

Much better to try and resolve an issue first before you bring attention to it on the internet. :)

Re: Name that bellhousing

The '51 Merc 4-bolt transmissions are exactly the same as the newer/improved '51 Fords, except for the shift arms. I guess it was cheaper/easier to design and build a one-year-only 4-bolt bell for...

Posting pictures, and a location other than YEP would sure be helpful.

Re: Are the front seats from a 40 Tudor and Coupe the same?

Two coupe seats were available. Business coupes (with the rear jump seats) used the same basic split back seat as a 2-door sedan, while the 5 window used a one piece seat back that flipped flip up...

Re: Flywheel / Clutch Tips 8BA

There are OE production diaphragm plates that have the same common bolt circle as the Merc B&B. Just match the finger height and T/O bearing OD (straight or bent finger Diaphragm).

Re: Oil Detergent - Rislone ZDDP

The best advice I've learned about engine oil is if you think you need an additive, you're using the wrong oil! :)

Re: 8BA oil direction

Agree^^^ If you want to use plain black hose, use high quality socketless (push-lock) #8 hose and fittings, like those from Aeroquip, that I use.)

Re: Name that bellhousing

I think "later" '51 Merc may be more accurate, as I have never seen first hand or any pictures of 1951 Mercury bells, other than the full cast iron version; never the stamped steel 1/2 bell round...

Re: Name that bellhousing

The regular production full cast iron '51 Mercury bell is the one with the early ('40-'48 T/O bearing shaft) and fork. This bell, and '52-'53 Ford and Mercury full cast car bells all use the same...

Re: 1953 f-100 ,disc brakes

While the above statement is true for some vehicles, many Fords used the same M/C bore diameter, power and non-power, on the same vehicle. The pedal ratio is normally different, power vs non-power. ...

Re: Difference between pre 1949 flywheel and 49-51 flywheel

All '49-'53 Ford and Mercury flywheels are inter-changeable; it's the clutch type and size that are different. Ford cars and trucks used 2-3 sizes of Long style pressure plates, while Mercurys used...

Re: Stromberg S-jet

I went through a couple of bad S jets on my tri-power flathead back in '09 with my new English 97s, but changed all 3 S-jets from Uncle Max and have had no problems for the last 20K miles. I always...

Re: German Flathead Ford V8 Engine

According to the book "40 Ford" by Joseph P. Cabadas, Ford Werk's Cologne plant started producing the 21 stud V8 in '35. The two electric motor break-in pictures in the book show no rear mounted...

Re: How to use PCV valve w Tri Power?

You're correct that both planes (of a dual plane intake) should "pull" on a pcv. An under carb plate, or port in the open plenum is best, but a port into the side of a dual plane will work if you...

Re: 1939 Ford Brake Pedal Low

Make sure the pedal has a good return spring that securely positions the pedal, then adjust the push rod for about a 1/16".
