Re: Snow bird conversion at Iola WI car show

Saw your photos and that looks really neat. I would think it is quite effective in the snow....have you tried it in fairly deep stuff?
Can it be easily converted back to road use?

Dave Lopes Fordor Model A

For those who might have neither seen or heard of it, here is a good photo I took many years ago of his car, during a Hemmings Model A Calendar photoshoot in Orange County. He trailered it down from...

Re: The Joys of vintage registration

When they were first made, the number stamped on the left frame rail and the engine number were the same. Over the years, many engines have been replaced, usually with a different number, unless...

Re: letting go

Steve....have always enjoyed and appreciated your many posts over the years. Most all of us will also have to face that rather sad day sometime down the road....never easy parting with an old friend...

Re: just curious

It seems to me that most of the Model A owner’s I know or have heard with a Mitchell, in the standard 26% configuration, prefer the stock 3.78 rear end. The Town Sedan is the heaviest Model A, so...

Re: Collector Car Insurance

It was the routine nature of it....they told me they like owners to use their cars occasionally, but not in a weekly routine....which for me was never exactly the same, but similar. I know they are...

Re: Collector Car Insurance

I had Grundy for several years, until someone mentioned some of their restrictions on how you drive your Model A. So I called Grundy directly, and asked to speak to someone about my policy and any...

Re: Help me identify engine noise?

One other thing to check: if you have engine pans check to be sure that one of the mounting flanges hasn’t broken. Tom Endy alerted that to me when my A was making a funny noise, and that was the...

Re: OD power

As others said it sounds like you must have 4.11 rear axle ratio, and at that speed you are already well past the power peak. I also have a Mitchell 26% OD, and I usually shift into 3rd OD at about...

Re: Preferred Speed

You didn’t say if you have traveled with it much before on the Hiway, but I agree with Jim that about 250 miles/day will tire you out, especially with the limited room of a pickup. There is also...

Re: Will I fit in a Roadster??

Daniel—-Constant tugging or pulling on the steering wheel works the attachment under the gas tank, ultimately causing it to leak.....quite common, then a chore to fix. There are optional attachments...

Re: Timing puzzle

So sorry to hear about your daughter......kind of puts Model A issues in perspective for sure. We will pray for her, and good luck with your timing.....

Re: Zenith rebuilds

I bought a re-built Zenith in 2009, from Chris Pelikan, of Model-A.Org in Colorado. At the time he was highly recommended by many in the Model A community. I can’t remember what I paid, but I was...

Re: Insurance for the Pickup

You need to be prepared on how you want to drive the car. Some insurance companies do not want you driving it regularly...only occasionally. At one time I had Grundy, then found out they did not...

Re: Turning the Choke knob

Turning the knob controls the air-fuel mixture in the carburetor. Turning it all the way to the right closes it, and most A’s won’t run with it closed. Every car is a little different....most A’s...

Re: Tire changers, do you use the DIY units?

My Goodyear tires are fine, new just a few years ago. But, unfortunately I had new tubes installed at the same time, and they were junk....everyone of them leaks about 3-4 pounds in a couple of...

Re: Overheating Problems

After I bought my A about 14 years ago, it occasionally overheated, so I removed the radiator and took it to someone who knew how to rod it out. He found something like 23 tubes were totally...

Re: Le Baron Bonney, Out of Business?

I quite agree with Brent....the odd’s or feasibility of someone buying what’s left and continuing the operation are slim and none....and Slim just walked out. The real value was the years of...

Re: Insurance

I use AAA, with the only restriction being I can’t use it to work regularly. I did have Grundy several years ago, and later found out they did not approve of me using the Model A regularly for going...

Re: Late 31 stop light switch replacement

The switch from A&L is really good, made to last, and self lubricated....it won’t stick.
