Re: adjustable tappets

Ok, I will bite. Why are clothes lines banned in the winter there?

Re: aviation gas

I used it for many years in the race car when we ran street class. The good old purple 115/145 was available then.
For street you won't have to tune any different unless you want. It will stand more...

Re: Winfield su1a

Winfield had the cams to have for flathead 4 bangers in the 20's and 30's and he did most of the winners for the Offy's but he was always way behind with the flathead Ford V8's.
The Isky 404, one of...

Re: Winfield su1a

The last one listed is the one I have seen 3 of that were actually bought from Winfield in 1953.

Re: Camshafts

That is correct. Any given high performance cam is DESIGNED to run on a certain diameter lifter.
If a given cam is designed to run on a 1 inch lifter, going to a 1.1 inch lifter is NOT going to...

Re: Winfield su1a

Winfield cams being among the first ones around are probably the most pirated ones in existence. Over the years I have had at least 15 different cams stamped SU1A come through the shop. Only 3 were...

Re: Winfield su1a

It will have a slightly lopey idle. Fair off idle power, so so mid range.

Re: Camshafts

Larger that 1 inch lifters won't hurt anything on a modern performance cam but they are NOT needed. The so called "double lock" ones are 1 inch and while they are slower to set, they will NEVER come...

Re: Camshafts

When having a cam reground for ANY purpose, have them use a modern design profile that has clearance ramps and uses 1 inch diameter lifters.

Re: Valve seats. How to remove?

Maybe...Maybe not....
The idea is to get the ring as hot as possible WITHOUT getting the block hot so when the heat is removed the ring will cool as fast as possible. The ring will shrink the most...

Re: Skip's rebuilt coils

I would not rock the boat. If you reverse engineer it and spill all the info, the service could go away. Could you sleep nights then?

Re: Dual Condensers?

You could mount it under the dash if you didn't like the looks.

Re: Dual Condensers?

It depends on the primary supply voltage, the individual coil, capacitor and the rpm (interrupt frequency) what the voltage spike will actually be. I have measured 300+ on a scope.

If you are...

Re: Dual Condensers?

A voltage spike occurs in the circuit when the points open and the magnetic field in the coil primary collapses. This spike can be 400 volts or more.

Re: Dual Condensers?

Kevin pretty well covered it but I will add a couple things.

The PRIMARY purpose of the capacitor in a coil /points/capacitor circuit is to tune the circuit to RESONANCE. When this is achieved,...

Re: Mixing lifters

Just be sure they are new or been refaced.
It s not recommended to put used lifters on a cam they have not been running on originally.

Re: Oversize OD main bearings for 37 21 stud block

No tangs. I just pinned them.

Re: Oversize OD main bearings for 37 21 stud block

They went in a customer's engine so I never got to find out the long term results.
The alloy was 75T.

Re: 40 turn signal options??

I have installed turn signals in quite a few old Fords.
My method had 2 required parameters.
1- It had to be self canceling.
2- It had to look like it came from the factory.

I used a 53 to 56...

Re: Oversize OD main bearings for 37 21 stud block

If there is enough meat between the studs, boring to the bigger size would seem to be the easiest way.
You sound like you have sleeved main bores back to standard before. That is another reletavley...
