I would have to say, stick with 6 V, clean all your connections, make sure your battery cables are good, and it’ll crank over like crazy. In my opinion eight volts is just a Band-Aid fix to cover up...

Try running it in the dark, and watch for voltage leaking. Although, usually, if it’s intermittent spark, you’ll get backfiring. I assume your plugs are clean.

The way to check king pin bushings, is to put your hand on the backing plate and the brake drum at the top then move the wheel in and out. If just just the brake drum moves, than your wheel bearings...

Refrigeration numbers on thermostats get larger as it’s turned colder. So would you say turn it up , or turn it down if you wanted colder temps?
Would you say number 4 exhaust valve or valve number...

If you want reliability, then go through everything and do it right. No shortcuts, Jerry rigging, worn out parts, ect. Then you’ll have reliability. It ain’t cheap.
