Rather than remove and reweld the mounts, make up a shim of the appropriate thickness to put you above the frame and place them underneath your biscuits......

I have always run the modern day wiring inside the old style cloth and tar like flexible conduit. It comes in multiple sizes.

Does anyone know of a source for these?

I did an brake once in a rock tumbler - took me quite a while to get all the rocks out of the passages in that too! But, it looked great when done ..... lol!
