Re: Paint, urethane and acrylic urethane

Nick,
Here’s a good explanation from Hemmings. I’ve used both types of paints and find the newer urethane 2K paint superior in application and wet sanding. I’ve also found that the older acrylic...

Re: old headliner cleaning

I wouldn’t try it. Someone did in the past on the headliner in my '40, or a section of it, and it looks lighter than the rest but not enough to look cleaned up so they quit.
The long time previous...

Re: They're Still Out There

My Fordor price was $20K three years ago. The brakes, wiring, carb, fuel pump, dizzy all needed rebuilding. Same deal, been in the family for years, lots of original paperwork, including the various...

Re: Drafty doors

Gufshoz, where did you buy the weatherstripping? My '29 coupe has the same problem and I'd like to eliminate that draft. Thanks!

Try this link on rpm, rear end ratio, tire diameter and speed. You can plug in your values and check the rpm or change any three values to get the fourth....

Re: Love our new mitchell overdrive

Ed, Congratulations on the new overdrive. What ratio did you pick and what shifter, cable or 'gear shift'? I’d like one for my '40 that has a 4:11 rear end and need to make those decisions. Thanks,...

Re: Crab distributors makes my head hurt sometimes ????

How do you get spark advance in the Chevy six after welding up the vacuum advance? Is there an internal mod that you fit?

Re: '40 V-8 Mileage

My '40 Fordor, stock everything, with a 4.11 rear end gets between 15 and 18 depending on how fast I drive. Back roads, 40 mph gets the higher mileage while anything 50-55 is pushing the rpms and...

Re: No Start.....fuel?

It's just a guess but my 40 has a similar problem when warm. It turns out the fuel has gotten hot and caused minor carburetor flooding. If she doesn't start on the first or second compression, I...

Re: Bendix brakes

That's a great series of pictures of you with your '40 on your website. Keep us posted on how the Bendix installation goes. I'd like to do the same on the fronts of my Fordor.

Re: Blemished wide white tire

I use Bleche Wite, available in hardware, big box and auto parts stores. Spray it on, let it sit for a minute or two and use an old sponge with water to rub off the dirt, stains etc. Then spray off...

Re: DynaBeads, yay or nay?

The previous owner put them in the new Goodyear tires on my '29 Coupe. The tires feel smooth and balanced at 45-50 mph. My guess is they are a good investment.

Re: 28 multi disc clutch

No, unlike the T that was bathed in oil, the early multis were dry.

Re: Adding a 4 blade instead of my 2 blade fan.

I think Tinman080 has it figured out. The radiator may test well but if it hasn't been rodded out it does have mineral buildup. I tried all the suggestions above and finally bit the bullet and had...

Re: Seat Belts

I've bought several sets of the belts from Snyder's, 74" long, for my cars and they seem fine, easy to adjust smaller as needed.

Re: Speedometer

He did a great job on my 29 coupe speedometer. Quick turnaround, reasonable cost. He reset the unit to zero miles. I forgot to tell him that I wanted the mileage that was on there to stay so I sent...

Re: Cam gear noise after warmup

Another update: I checked across the face of the timing gear towards the cam and found the aluminum insert was convex by a few thousandth causing it to rock on the cam face even when tight. I...

Re: Cam gear noise after warmup

Update: I removed the cover and found that the aluminum center/fiber outer gear was loose on the cam. The nut came off with a whack with a hammer on screwdriver so it wasn't very tight. I thought I...

WHN,
It has 30 wt in it from the previous owner. I'll be changing the oil and putting in 20-50. The cover comes off this morning.

Cam gear noise after warmup

I recently bought a 1929 standard coupe with an engine rebuilt 6 or 7 years ago and two owners ago. After warmup the cam gear is rattling. I tested it using the timing pin method described in the...

Re: Oil mist on left side of engine

The vendors carry the accessory unit that fits into the breather tube and carries the mist to under the car. Here's the one from Snyder's: https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/oil-breather
