Re: Carburetor Float Valve Seat Wrench

You might try a spring plunger wrench, available from McMaster-Carr (and others). They are available from 6-32 to 1"-8 and range from $5 - $10. They don't provide the dimensions for the wrenches but...

Re: Help please

True that.

Re: Model A Timing Advance System

Here's what I use:
Stock distributor w/modern style cap and custom MSD wires.
Pertronix ignitor (acting only as trigger for the MSD).
Points plate locked out a 28 deg total advance.
The MSD does...

Re: 600w

Do a forum search on "600w" and you'll probably get more info than you want.

It should be noted that in the transmission the oils viscosity along with technique are what synchronize the gears for...

Re: Has Anyone Ever Found A Use For WD-40?

Piggybacking on what Mike said.
A lot of machinists, myself included, use it when machining Aluminum. I'm talking lathe and mill work. It helps keep the Aluminum from sticking to the tool, keeps the...

Re: question. simple starter motor conversion to 12v

Mike I always enjoy your posts. Well thought out and although too technical for some not so for others. I understand them.

Not too many engineers but I'm sure more than 1.

So an audience of...

Re: question. simple starter motor conversion to 12v

I'm surprised nobody mentioned this:

Not the cheapest, nor original, but probably the simplest...

Re: Engine stud hole retap question/confusion

I like the Time-Sert inserts. Makes for a clean, strong repair.

Re: California Gas problem

Odd. I live in SoCal and have never had that kind of problem. I do use Marvel Mystery Oil with each tank of gas.

Re: Temp diff across Radiator

I'm running 50/50 antifreeze.

The radiator was re-cored by a local radiator shop 42 years ago, when we first got the car. I'm pretty sure it's 4 row and not sure of fin count. I'll verify this...

Re: Temp diff across Radiator

Sorry for the delay answering, I was traveling.
Yes the beginning of the data shows the car warming up.
Yes the car was driven for these tests. The spikes in RPM are me shifting gears.
Yes I run...

Re: Castrated A

Update:
I used a file to check the hardness (or relative hardness) of the old vs new balls. The original balls are whatever the base metal of the forging is and files like mild steel.

The balls...

Re: Some Heads are about to Explode!

I initially hesitated (questioned myself) about installing the sensor in this position, for that very reason. I considered installing a short tube upstream of the choke with the sensor in it but that...

Re: Some Heads are about to Explode!

Lambad is a way of expressing the air/fuel ratio relative to stoichiometric.
value = 1.0 = stoichiometric
value < 1.0 = rich
value > 1.0 = lean

IAT = Intake Air Temp = The air temp entering...

Some Heads are about to Explode!

We always see threads about overheating, radiators, 2 vs 4 blade fans, effects of engine pans, GAV adjustment, what thermostat temp to run (if any), etc.

And then there's the #4 cylinder running...

Re: Castrated A

Yes I agree. Notice I said early on in the thread that Snyder spec'd the shank at .497 however I have, and measured, 12 balls. NONE measured .497. They ranged from .4985 to .5025 (smallest reading)...
