Re: Fuse blowing

Cutout contacts are open until the gen spins up enough to exceed battery voltage. A bad one will show continuity between terminals.

Re: Convert 1929 from Negative Ground back to Positive

12V Negative ground is more up-to-date. Makes the A compatible with modern add-ons. There's no advantage to positive ground, unless you're going for originality. And then you have to change back...

Re: Model A Voltage Regulators - NOW WORKING - Testers needed

Now I wish I hadn'a chucked my genny for an alternator. All LEDs too. Good luck, Jeff.

Re: 1929 TwoLite headlamps w/ LED turn signals

Since you have turn signal lamps in the bumper you should leave the bucket lamp as designed, for parking lamp. I don't understand your intention in post #1.

Re: 1929 TwoLite headlamps w/ LED turn signals

The original use of the second bulb was as a parking lamp, with the absence of cowl lamps. If you have cowl lamps it's ok to use the second bulb for turn signals, although it makes more sense to use...

Re: Light Wire Harness Bucket Seized/Issues

In response to post #20 - My thinking is the switch control is within reach, the switch at the bottom keeps hot wires out of the column tube.

Re: Faulty Flasher

Another problem is that most TS switches come with 12V pilot bulbs. You may need to change out that bulb.

Re: Tail light Wiring

Switch plate on the repo harness is for the later switch. You need to find an early plate/puck and solder it in place of the new one.

Re: Blowing Starter Safety Fuse Help Please

ndnchf is correct. The battery closes the points and connects it to the generator (motor), which blows the fuse.

Question is, where did that generator case come from. Looks like you need to...

Connect the output to one side, other side toward battery. If it doesn't work, rotate it 180...

Re: Voltage regulator

The ammeter is a battery charge indicator. It doesn't tell you much about the generator except that it's working. 1-2 amps is a good steady charge for a healthy battery, after recovery from the...

Re: Voltage regulator

You describe a series regulator such as used in the internal Wesenberg type, which switches field current to limit output voltage. Regan's external shunt (parallel) regulator pulses excess power to...

Re: bad ammeter effect

Jumper won't remove the ammeter. It may be shorting to the tank. Jumper won't clear that.

Re: Headlights

I would keep it original. Reliable enough, and think of The Next Guy. There's enough to confuse him with.

Re: ' 31 Head Lights

Gary, everything stated there is true, except Ford never authorized 50 CP bulbs as it strains the limit of the generator.

Re: 20-0-20 amp meter

A regulated alternator won't push more than a couple amps into the battery under normal running conditions. It's the discharge from the battery in the other direction due to overload that could hurt...

Re: 2 Bulb Headlight idea (1929 A)

Some say the headlight bulb is less noticeable than the cowl or bumper location. But I'd say it's better than nothing.

Re: converting a 12 volt alternator to a 6 volt positive ground

Positive and negative ground use the same regulator. Negative screws directly to the case, positive uses insulated screws, and jumpers the negative side to the output. You may have omitted the...

Re: Need Help with a Model A that’s Overcharging.

Re: horn wiring

The idea is to get battery to one brush, ground to the other. Shouldn't matter which polarity. The yellow harness wire comes direct from battery via the cutout, the other wire goes to the horn...
