Re: Source for rewiring '57 T-Bird

If you are going to do it yourself with the dash in the car, remove the front seat to give yourself plenty of room. An electrical installation manual for the 57 is you best bet - it shows how...

Re: Fender hardware

NO, it's not. Any torque difference is small if there is one. Based on the charts I've seen, there is only a 1 pound difference in torque between fine and coarse.

Re: 1956 Ford fairlane 4-dr rocker panel install

Ideally, the body should be on the frame when replacing panels like rockers in order to maintain body alignment. Since yours is already off, do one rocker at a time. The thing in your favor is it...

Re: It is getting harder to find basic parts at the auto parts stores anymore

I do a lot of my car parts shopping over the internet ( a lot on ebay) because that is where the parts for sale are. You can't expect the parts store to stock parts for 50 year old cars where there...

Re: Fender hardware

McMaster-Carr has many different lengths in 5'16-24. Prices reasonable, for instance grade 5, 1 1/2 " length, box of 25 around 7 dollars (plus shipping). But if it's not a concours show car, go...

Re: 56 engine mount

After 56 they deleted the steady rest with no apparent problems. That said, when I installed a 312 (with top loader 4 speed) in my 54, I kept the steady rest (off a 55/56) only because I wanted the...

Re: 56 engine mount

Are you sure of the origin of the steady rest. Is it a 54? If so, it will not work with a 55 and 56 damper. I found this out when I went with a 312 in my 54.

Re: Ammeter vs volt meter on 12v converted system

Check with Williamson's in Arkansas - they may be able to take your stock gauge and turn it into a voltmeter and have it look stock.

Re: Looking for a better rear end

With the right parts, a 8 inch can be made very stout and handle lots of horsepower. Traction locks are available. Other wise, a 9 inch from a 57/58 (bolt in) are strong, lots of aftermarket stuff...

Re: 1955 t-bird 4.10 gears to replace 3.31

Probably the best way to change is get a 57 Bird rear (9 inch) and then get the gear ratio you want aftermarket.. 57/58 sedans are a bolt in, but you will have to use lowering blocks to maintain...

Re: choke setting

Not quite sure what you mean by setting a manual choke, but with the choke wide open and the cable all the way pushed in, you set the inner wire into the fitting and screw it tight.

Re: What is your favorite brand of spark plug wires?

I have Taylor on two of my cars with no problems. Been on the cars quite a long time. I use the universal sets so I can custom make the lengths. Got their tool which works great.

Re: Oil filter adapter question

At one time Mac's had a extra thick gasket - don't know if they still have it.

On my 56 Bird, I did the change twice - both times leaked. Went back to the canister and had no more problems.
