Re: 312 rear main seal

I replaced the rear main on my 312 with the engine in place in my roadster. I used the Best Garket black neoprene seal, and followed the instructions by Ted Eaton. One caution, Best made some...

Re: Vintage Mustang Form ?

I had a similar problem over at yblocksforever. My Safari browser had done an update, and was defaulting to "show desk top site" when I opened it. Reset that, problem went away. A guy up in BC...

Re: 1955 t-bird door latch loose

Thanks, HRR, that sounds like the solution to my problem, I know I don't have them.

Re: 1955 t-bird door latch loose

Not a real good photo, but the point of the wheel at the 1" mark moves 1/4" clockwise when rotated. So 1/2" sounds like a lot of wear. My latches were replaced by new (or rebuilt, don't remember)...

Re: 292 Y Block Electronic Ignition Conversion Advice

Go down this thread to the post by Greenbird. I've known him for several years and he's a very experienced engineer. I'm running the Duraspark module to trigger my EFI controller with a programmed...

Re: choke setting

Thanks, Sal and Dave, you've rung a bell from way back. I'm not sure I ever worked on one of those, but I remember the "manual choke no fast idle setting" from the early days on Dad's marine...

Re: Replace any tire over 6 years old.

Only once have I had a catastrophe tire failure, and that was on a motor home. Probably age or impact related, but it was cool and properly inflated when it lost the whole tread. What I've seen more...

Re: What is your favorite brand of spark plug wires?

One more thing I'll throw in. I've never found better routing and securing of the plug wires than the factory looms. I had mine powder coated bright silver, looks almost like chrome. Black, they'd...

Re: choke setting

There should also be some instructions in the shop manual about setting the fast idle screw, etc. It's pretty simple once you've done it.

Re: What is your favorite brand of spark plug wires?

I've never had any problems with the wire sets I bought from Larry's Thunderbird, and I'm running MSD units on both cars. No cross fire, no missing, and no falling off. Boots holding up fine next to...

Re: 1955 t-bird 4.10 gears to replace 3.31

If you're asking if the 4.11 gears will fit in the 3.31 housing, best I know the answer is yes. I know it'll work the other way, and best I can recall the rear cover gasket was the same on my 3.31...

Re: Ford GT Mark II

Having just seen Ford vs Ferrari, I'd like to see that. Just to compare what was said then.

I'm not much for movies, but I liked that one.

Re: 1955 t-bird 4.10 gears to replace 3.31

To add to what rotorwrench said. In the late 60's, I pulled the 3.31's out of my 55 bird and stuck the rearend from a 56 6 cyl o/d wagon in it. That was a 4.27 or 4.30 ratio. IIRC, I swapped the...

Re: Fuel Tank Leak Fiasco at Tank '56

The FAQ's on the JB site. Check other products listed for "wet" gasoline or water repairs.

https://www.jbweld.com/faqs

Doesn't say if it'll fill the hole from a 38, but might work on a fitting.

Re: 57 Thunderbird molding

I haven't used that one, but in general I've had good luck with both Larry's out of CA and Councours out of NV. Cheaper shipping for me in Seattle.

Great news Dana. I'm with you, they always leaked on failure. Guess we're not too old to learn something.

Re: 57 Y-v8 292 oil pump wear? check?

Dana and K, just a thought. If you'd turned a cam bearing, wouldn't it block the flow, raise the oil pressure, followed by a lot of clattering from the dry valves and bearings? I'd be looking at...

Re: Radial and Bias Tires.

The tire pressure on the tire is the pressure for its maximum load rating, which is also listed. On most radials you can get away with that because the belt keeps the tread relatively flat. Most...

Re: Radial and Bias Tires.

I don't remember a lot of radials around on factory new American cars until the late 60's. My first set of radials was on a 68 Swedish car, I'm sure many foreign cars used them prior to that.

All...

Re: y-block blow by..

I’m glad the problem is solved. If you’ve got any miles to speak of on the motor, I’d either make a long run or change the oil. If it looks good on the dipstick a good run is probably enough. If it...
