Re: Hard starting when warm/hot

if i understand - you have no working choke? if it starts up fine cold without a choke that suggests to me that its running very rich, which would also mean that once warmed it will not start well is...

Re: '54-'56 power steering question.....

My 55 power steering system shuddered on tight turns when first acquired and leaked a bit (bound to happen after 60+ years), but after a rebuild it's been great. never even give it a thought anymore....

Re: Checking radiator for overheating problem with 1956 Thunderbird

Didn't see anyone else mention it, but as memory serve practice was in the day to use a 160 thermo in the summer and a 180 in the winter (in places like the dakotas!). Pretty sure my 292 also has a...

Re: transmission service prep

55blacktie - Gene never returned my call/message. What exactly would he be offering anyway? Doesn't look like he does any transmission work? Are you saying he would tweak an otherwise rebuilt tranny...

Re: transmission service prep

I have the manual on the left. I dropped it off and the tools with my guy to go thru to help him understand the procedures and test. Fingers crossed he feels comfortable doing the work; not sure what...

Re: transmission service prep

Kultulz - I know of no one in the state of Oregon who is familiar with Fordomatics. I dont know what WSM is, but my manual is for my car.

I assume my regular mechanic would have simply...

Re: transmission service prep

I could have my mechanic do a pressure test to see what happens. We’d have no way frankly of ascertaining the rest of your recommendations ( or so I suspect) as he doesn’t work on transmissions and...

Re: transmission service prep

Deleted a follow up I wrote as I think I was getting in the wrong weeds myself.

Rotowrench - you mention a lot of good things to check on. At this point I cant really answer some of them. But...

Re: transmission service prep

its the wrong fluid (Type F) which if anything, should lessen the slipping feeling I would assume. I'll be getting that corrected. As i recall they reused most of the original parts including the...

transmission service prep

Ever since having my fordomatic transmission rebuilt it just doesn't work they way it used to/should. I'm not taking it back to the shop that did the work and i couldn't care less about the warranty...

Re: CVA annual meet 2022

Thanks for those part numbers!

And that's the horn ring - I might bite the bullet and get that and just hold on to my damaged original. I am curious about how folks feel about original versus...

Re: CVA annual meet 2022

I could take some pics to post, but until then (car is parked elsewhere - I swear i'm not that lazy!):

I need a horn ring with the power steering or braking printed on it (can't ever remember...

Re: New regulator problems

I could believe this with my limited ability to understand this system - i get the generators put out less at idle. However I struggle with the fact that up until my old VR started having sticking...

New regulator problems

New voltage regulator installed. At idle my generator light comes on. Does this mean I should re magnetize? Seems like it’s not “just” related to a bad vr, but my vr does seem to be having troubles…...

Re: 55 electric clock

Not sure if I’ve figured out how the electric part works but it seems like my problem is more to do with the clock mechanism, it doesn’t seem to be moving as friction-free as it should.

I opened the clock but I don’t see anything that is “obviously points”. The clock looks incredibly clean so I’m not sure what I could do to clean it. Are points in the wiring portion or the clock...

Re: 1956 lincoln premiere

Based on my experience having a shop rebuild my tranny, I would not ask for their opinion. The warranty is the least of your problems if it starts to damage itself. Tell them firmly that it should be...

Re: 55 electric clock

Thanks for the tips. I don’t know what clock points are so that suggests I’m in the camp to send it out for repair :D. I’ll look up Williamson and see what they offer.

Re: 55 Crown Victoria generator light coming on

I lightly sanded my contacts like previously recommended, and I guess it was a band aid fix. I ordered a new voltage regular from Dennis Carpenter, so hopefully it’s decent quality.

Anyway, my...
