Jim glad you escaped from the joint. Usually you get pneumonia in there you exit feet first.

Yeah & those $3-4.00 ones will not do the job. Get you self a good one the has some extinguishing powder in it. Seen a few that just one or two brief shots & they were done.

I do not understand why you are trying to fix a problem with a new build. Take it back to the builder. You are voiding any warranty that you may have had.

Harbor Freight has metal prep that works nicely. I use that then wash with baking soda then a light coat of bondo then some sanding /filler primer. Just enough bondo to fill the void.

Talk about skinny.! I had 2 girls & my buddy in the front seat of my beautiful blue std coupe when I rolled it 3 times ,sure flattened it down almost to the dash. The girls being in the middle ended...

Nicks can be anywhere along the tube. Can you be more specific. Near the ends ,in the middle? It doesn't take much & may not be visible to the naked eye.

Where is the nick? Have you tested it after taking it out & before sending it in for repair?
How dep is the nick? Give us better information & a picture would be helpful of the damaged area.

I made mine from a head bolt. Took a 4" angle grinder & cut 3 slots in the threads. Works for me. Just don't go ape & force it, but work it back & forth a little at a time.
