Post Re: 55 272 Distributor

Post Re: 55 272 Distributor

Each DIST is calibrated to the engine it is intended for install. That's the reason for the ID. it gives you specs and the correct parts list. It just so happens your present DIST is from a 272 4V...

Thumbs up Re: 55 272 Distributor

There you go, you're learning. Hard to say what has happened since 1955.

Thumbs up Re: 55 272 Distributor

It's a good idea to write stuff like this down in a journal (service history) so you will know what you have come time for repairs. There is so much mix and match over the years it is difficult to...

Post Re: 55 272 Distributor

For example-

The 1955 TRUCK 239/256 used one diaphram assy while the 1956 272 used another. It seems many 55's received a 272 upgrade.

Post Re: 55 272 Distributor

Post Re: 55 272 Distributor

Take the dist cap off and supply 7HG to the vacuum advance canister. See if it holds that value.

If it does vary the vacuum signal and see if the breaker plate moves freely.

Setting up a LOM...

Only the Y-BLOCK DUAL ADVANCE DIST

HOLLEY and MALLORY offered dual point mechanical advance distributors for performance engines before the DUAL ADVANCE was introduced in 1957. Be a little hard on...

Post Re: 55 272 Distributor

What has happened is a shortage of FYB DUAL ADVANCE DIST cores. While a SBF dist housing will work in a FYB, the actual SBF dist shaft used is too short. If you order a FYB rebuild and when pulled...
